Wow, did...did we actually vote on this movie?  Did we REQUEST that Mike and Co watch this movie for our enjoyment?
If so, surely history will judge us harshly.  This movie, I mean, Hercules against the Moon Men was a festive romp compared to it.  CROSSROADS was a festive romp compared to this.
Oh Mike, Kevin, Bill.  If any action on my part caused you to have to watch this movie...I beg forgiveness.
  Ugh.  So.  Very.  Bad.

Worst movie yet.  Made Mike lash out in rage.

We're going to Hell aren't we?

Oh no, no no no no, Crossroads is still an unwatchable, annoying turd of a movie... not
really much worse than BE.

sarcasm_made_Easy

as bad as crossroads was there is no denying the riff was FREAKEN hilarious

macleod

Indeed, this was bad...

But really, worse movies are out there (Troll 2 for one) no matter how you look at it...

But Hercules Against the Moon Men? Deep hurting was painful, I can't even imagine having watched that one without Joel and the bots...

NOHC

I did a bad thing today.

I bought BE today...out of the bargain bin at the local 'Whitetrash-Mart".  $4.88.

The wife's discount dropped another 10% off it, so it came out to be about $4.50 after taxes.

Now..how do I live with myself, knowing that I willingly contributed to the film equivalent of a festering, open sore's total sales? I keep telling myself that it's just for the Riff, but it doesn't make me feel better about buying it.

I think it shall be segregated whilst not being riffed...away from my other DVDs to keep from infecting them.

I still think Crossroads is by far a more embarrassing film to have on your shelf

Easier to go out and rent to be sure. Publicly, I'd rather have the world know I've watched Battlefield Earth than Crossroads. HOWEVER, deep down inside, I know Battlefield Earth was the more regrettable experience. It has hurt me in ways I'd need a doll to show you.. :^)

Come on people... embrace the bad! Have some fun with it... Every second of Travolta's inexplicable performance was like a sweet symphony of unintentional comedy. The biggest downer of the whole experience was towards the end with Mike and the gang reminding the audience how painful the whole thing was. I don't buy Rifftrax to be told I'm wasting my time on a horrible movie, I'm already well aware of that part. I really wish in cases like this they would at least TRY to have some fun with it, the faux-complaining about how awful their job is just never strikes me as terribly funny.

Strangely enough, that's some of the funniest stuff to me. Funny is completely subjective, after all. That said, I found this rifftrax kinda hard to sit through, not because the riffs weren't there, but because the movie was so horrible. I find the total disregard for reason so off-putting that it distracts me from totally enjoying the jokes being made. The same thing happened the first time I saw MST3K's Manos episode, too. But eventually I got desensitized to the awfulness of that one and hopefully that will happen here, too. I feel for Mike and the guys for having to sit through this un-riffed. This is definitely one of the movies where I miss having skits thrown in to take a break from the inanity.

I can see your point with the Battlefield Earth comparisons to Manos. It did take me a relatively long time, probably 5 or 6 viewings, to really warm up to that episode and appreciate it for the truly great MST episode that it is. Although there are some MST episodes, like most of the Coleman Francis eps, that I've never been able to get over the hump with. At least Manos had the unintentional comedy factor of Torgo. So I can understand how BE could effect people in a similar way.

That said, I found a decent chuck of entertainment value in Travolta's completely whacked performance. I think that made the entire movie go down smoother. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a pretty awful movie overall... but I think I found my own silver lining to help the whole thing work better. I could watch Battledield Earth today, sans Rifftrax, and would probably chuckle to myself everytime Travolta is on screen.

I guess my big issue with the "this is so painful" complaining amounts to an unfair comparison to MST3K and I'll freely admit that. For the most part on MST3K, they seemed to make the best of a bad situation when dealing with the crap movies. The whole "turn the lemons into lemonade" factor, if you will. Sure, they cried and moaned about the movies... but it all had a lighthearted vibe that didn't usually spiral into spite and hostility. In Rifftrax, they seem content just to point out that the lemons exist and that they are really awful. Obviously, this is a generalization... and really it's on a joke by joke basis, as there is nothing wrong with tearing the movie a new one. I just think when overdone, it quickly degrades from comedy to mean spirited mockery.

Ok, this complaint has been registered about 1000 times in various boards on this forum. While yes, it is a little silly, I know that in some cases there's a bit of sincerity in the pain. For example, Mike has been emphatically saying that Star Wars 1 is his most hated movie of all time, in his eyes worse than manos. So I think he means it in some of these cases. And also, I know that oftentimes Mike and the guys riff movies that they think we want to see, but I'm sure they could go without watching.

Ok, final point. By time Mike records these tracks, he has been exposed to a ridiculous amount of the movie (like 30 hours of Battlefield Earth), I bet it DOES hurt by then.

Nunyerbiz

I'm not saying that there isn't legitimate anguish involved when watching these movies over and over in preparation for a rifftrax. I'm sure that there is. Of course, I don't think the overall 'pain' factor invovled would be much different than the average crap MST3K movie that these guys were subjected to over the years. Back then, they usually managed to disguise and/or diffuse their overall hatred and spite through humor. It was almost always about making a joke, not just lashing out. I prefer when they make the horrible movie more bearable and not so much when they just point out how unbearable it actually might be. In my opinion, that is the beauty of the entire riffing genre, if you will, to redeem the unredeemable via humor. If you just come out and admit "this is horrible, this really huirts" then Dr.Forrester has already won. Err... well... the spirit of Dr.F or whatever.

But mike and the bots have been broken many times.  Like the neptune men for example.  If it wasnt for Kronkor showing up they would have lost it.
