QuoteBuried in an interview with Warner Brothers President Jeff Robinov are two very exciting movie announcements: the next Dark Knight is a go, and a Wonder Woman movie might be in the works.

Yesterday rumors were circulating that the third Nolan Batman film was in the works with brother Jonah and David Goyer on board to cowrite the script. And now the New York Times has confirmed the Batman film, and a possible Wonder Woman movie.

While interviewing director Nolan about working with Robinov they confirmed the next Batman picture and later let it slide that Wonder Woman might be one of the next DC characters they focus their lenses on.

"He is trying not to cling to the things that have worked in the past," said Christopher Nolan, who directed "The Dark Knight" and is working on another Batman sequel....

The Walt Disney Company's $4 billion purchase of Marvel Entertainment just over a month ago has increased the pressure on Warner to succeed this time. Warner is expected to announce a DC slate in the coming months populated by characters like the Flash and Wonder Woman.

This is probably as close as we're going to get besides an official press release from the studio. But we're just happy Nolan is no longer merely brainstroming ideas about the next Batman picture, and actually putting pen to paper.

The article also gives a sense that Robinov is still committed to doing ambitious, creator-driven projects, even in spite of the failure of Speed Racer and the relative failure of Watchmen, and this may play into the studio's plans for its DC Comics properties.

IMDB.com has been quoting articles that say he's also working on the next Superman film....

QuoteChristopher Nolan is starting to look like some kind of superhero. Or at least the man the superheroes come to when they want their franchise rescued. After bringing Batman roaring back to life in 2005 and then lifting him to previously unheard heights of awesome with The Dark Knight, it looks like Nolan will be playing mentor to yet another famous DC hero.

After all, who has had a harder franchise time lately than Superman? Aside from WB's Smallville, every iteration of the character since 1978's Superman has been flawed or downright wrong-headed.

It makes sense then to pursue Nolan, who keeps churning out exciting and interesting films in between his comic adaptations. This summer will see the release of Nolan's compelling Inception, a futuristic mystery thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio. And he is also already at work with David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan on the plot particulars of the third entry in the Batman franchise

In other news, water is wet and fire is hot.

One of these days, I would like to see some big name director or actor actually get paid in a dumptruck full of cash.

So... villains? I can't remember if they've officially knocked anyone off the list.

Crossing my fingers and toes for the Riddler. Jim Carrey's performance is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I would love to see the role taken a bit more seriously. The World's Greatest Detective deserves the World's Greatest Criminal Mastermind.

Or Mr. Freeze. That will probably be too much of stretch to incorporate his patent brand of villainy into the science of this current Batman saga (a freeze ray is way out in sci-fi territory) but call me a sucker, I really, really, really like the sympathetic bad guy he was reimagined as, trying to cure his cryogenically frozen wife at all costs.

They consider Smallville a good version of Superman?

By comparison......

What about the Animated version, or Justice League? Those were both pretty good, relatively speaking.  And fuck, Singer's Superman was a billion times better than Smallville.*

*I can pronounce this because I've never seen a full episode of Smallville, so logically it -must- be terrible.

I've seen quite a few seasons of Smallville....and once it got past the "Freak of the Week" episodes.....it actually has been good.  That last movie was weak and contrived.

As far as the next Batman, wish Nolan would go for a villain that Schumacher didn't screw up....there has to be one or two, right?

And they've been claiming they're going to make a Wonder Woman film since Lynda Carter hung up her golden lasso.....

A bunch and I'm serious about Talia (actually I think what with the psychological focus of the Nolan films, they could make Tut work too but that's by the by).

Hell, have both her and Nyssa for a nice and complex set of relationships (this would require a fair bit of modification of back stories but that's doable).

Talia would be great.   And while we're at it, let's bring in Ubu as well.

Introducing a new love interest would be clumsy, I think, as they would have to acknowledge how Bruce feels about Rachel's death (and no doubt he still has feelings for her). I don't want to watch Bruce trying to get over his dead almost-girlfriend for half the film while struggling with new feelings for some other woman. It smells like a recipe for disaster to me.

I want to see Batman punching psychopaths in the face, Michael Caine being witty, and Morgan Freeman delivering verbal vasectomies to conniving, opportunistic leeches, all wrapped up in the popcorn psychology of modern cinema.

I'm just not sure hearing about Bruce Wayne's feelings again is such a good idea. They'll have to resolve the issue of Bruce and Rachel's non-relationship somehow and I'm not seeing a way they could do it gracefully.

Talia is more than just somebody who get to experience the batpole you know.

And her father was a fairly big part of the first film....

Plus I didn't give a toss about Rachael, neither of 'em.
