Lucas borrowed sound effects from another sci-fi franchise?

I was watching my ANH re-author today and listening with headphones.  When Luke is at Ben's place, I heard a familiar sound effect faintly in the background as they're talking.

It sounded an awful lot like the "shuttlecraft interior" effect from ST:TOS.  Anyone else noticed this?

I haven't noticed but I'll listen for it.

Have noticed how many plot lines Lucas lifted from old movie serials, though.   ;)

Doctor Who?

I'm not sure why this is news, all stuidos have a library of sound effects that are used in everything.  I don't think anyone has ever filed a pattent on a sound effect.  Movies would be even more expensive if each one had to make it's own sound effects that didn't sound anything like the sound effects in any other movie.  Some of the sound effects you hear in movies today can be found in old radio shows from the 40s.  Also lucas was not behind the sound so if any one stole it was ben Burtt.

Actually, there are a great deal of sound fx that do have protection from infringement. The "transforming sound" on the old Transformers cartoon is one example, and I do believe I once heard that Lucas's specific lightsaber noises are another (though I've heard those VERY closely mimicked in plenty of films).
Filmmakers can buy sfx for their films, though, and even some of the more recognizable ones (didn't Clonus use the old Trek "red alert" when the doughy-faced guy escaped?)

Is it just me, or did I hear an almost identical version of the Six Million Dollar Man sound effect in Moon?

I do remember hearing the commentary on Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy that Lucasfilm "gave" them the lightsaber sound effect, suggesting that they couldn't have used it until given the OK.  There are a lot of SFX that are public domain and re-used, how many Wilhelm screams have we heard over the years (including, I believe, all six Star Wars movies)
