And the whole drill weapon..... seems to me that a single F-15 could have taken it out and Vulcan should be ashamed.

Well, some how in this time line Vulcan has no weapons....

Defense systems during a time when the Klingons are still out there making war is illogical, I guess.

Just finished watching the movie unriffed first.   I've watched almost all the movies, all the TNG, most TOS, some Deep Space Nine, little Voyager.

I guess I dont understand why they HAD to change things up and create alternate reality.   I think they could have told mostly the same story and kept the back history in tact.

And the whole drill weapon..... seems to me that a single F-15 could have taken it out and Vulcan should be ashamed.

Yeah and then the same people who complain about the new time line would be complaining that the tech was more advanced then in TOS,the sets didn't look the same(Never mind that cheap tv sets from the 60s would never work on a movie screen),Pike commanded the Enterprise for 20 years,Kirk entered starfleet when he was 18 not 25,and a billion other things.  A new time line was the only way to go and there was no way to make fans happy because star trek fans number one passtime is complaining about any new Star trek product while ingoring what went wrong in the past and acting like it was perfect.  I feel sorry for Abrams because there was no way for him to win.  Also the only reason Spcok could destroy the drill was because his ship was from the future too.

Feel free to nitpick i am just saying i really don't see how this film is any worse then any of the "good" old Trek movies or Tv shows.

Meanwhile, he was just over in another thread saying that he can't understand why they remade The Omen because Patrick Troughton was in it.

Did I say because he was in it?  Quote me,I didn't say that.  All I said was I didn't see why they felt the need to remake it.  Before you try to pull something this movie is not a remake any more then Mirror Mirror is a remake and i don't see you complaining about that episode very chance you get.  Now get off my back.

You questioned the need to remake something after all crap you've give people for hating remakes....that's enough.

THIS WAS NOT A REMAKE!  IF IT WAS MIRROR MIRROR WAS A REMAKE WHERE IS YOUR HATE FOR THAT!  I am not riding anyone but you have been coming after me ever since i said i liked this movie.  I LIKED SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T GET OVER IT!  I was having polite debate with another user and you come into this thread start riding me like you have been since this film came out.  Knock it off!   Lots of people liked this movie too why don't you spend some time going after them or do something useful that will advance you cause like buying a gun and flying to hollywood so you can shoot J.J.Abrams.

Look I am sorry that i liked this movie really I am.  I am also sorry that only 1 out of every ten remakes doesn't suck.  I am also sorry that that one out of ten remakes that doesn't suck i will sometimes like.  I am also sorry I didn't ask you before talking to another user about this movie.  I am sorry you can;t get over what i think about this movie.  I am sorry that what i think about this movie is the most important thing in the world to you.  To end I am sorry i am not you.

P.S you don't think that there is a chance that I could find that the Omen has not dated that much but that Star trek is very dated.  Also is there another chance that i find one movie to be well made and the other not?

Russell

I don't know how anybody can hate this movie, it was a pretty ballsy re-imagining... and yes, there is a difference between re-imagining and re-make.

Doctor Who?

I learned that Romulans don't know a thing about work place safty and that there is a Starfleet outpost that must be filled with tribbles.  Oh and I also learned that there is at least two actors who have been in both Star Trek and Doctor Who and they are both in this movie and in the same scene.

Moleman

I learned that Star Trek fans only care about realism, plot, and consistency when it comes to this film.

Meh... frankly I only care about how good a movie is anymore, as far as I am concerned, everything else is secondary. However, there are times when plot holes are excusable, and times when they're not *cough*Star Trek Generations*cough*.

Lovye

Alright, I'm watching the commentary:

1)  It's not a canyon, it's a quary....besides, this is FUTURE Iowa....

2)  They're not glass bottles in the bar, they are made from some....sci-fi, futuristic crystal......

3)  Scenes were shot in a Budweiser factory

4)  They liked the handrails and that was deliberate in the ship because, it was reasoned, if one is in a space craft, the way it would be jostled, it would make sense.

Personally for me, Star Trek Died when TNG went off the air. After watching this i felt i was watching Dawson Creek more then Star Trek or Star Trek for Dummies.  It Seems to me that in order for something to be popular it has to appeal to the lowest common denominator. At least most of the Time. Look at Twilight for god sake.

You're seriously comparing this movie to Twilight? That's pretty ballsy, man.

Bob

I didn't hate the movie, I would give it 3/5 stars.   Entertaining on its own, but I still dont know why they had to mess with the timeline.

Besides the Romulans having an "ultimate" weapon that a single F-15 could take out, I was confused why the guys sky dived onto the platform without a phaser?    A phaser might have come in handy..... and why the Romulans on the weapon did not have one was a bit much too.
