I know this might sound funny and I'm putting myself out on a limb for all the world to call me crazy, a loser, geek, dork...whatever but I was listening to a song (A bonus track from Miriam Stockley's solo album that is a remix of the song Adiemus.) and for some odd reason it got me thinking of just how epic a Dragonball series of movies should be, that Fox should have gone balls to the wall with Evolution and given it a budget, better crafted narrative, special effects, etc. etc. I'm getting sick of the same old cop out that they don't have to make a quality, epic movies based upon old cartoons (I'm looking at you Transformers.) because they are just....cartoons. If anything, after watching the first season of DBZ with mostly the original Japanese dialogue and subtitles it's become quite clear how much of a powerful, emotional movie going experience Dragonball in the live action movie format should be. Evolution was just such an emotionless, paint by the numbers movie. With so much at risk, namely the destruction of all humanity, you'd think the main characters would have taken their quest more seriously and that Piccolo and Goku's fight would have been more dire and passionate what with the loss meaning the end of all living things on Earth. Does anyone in Hollywood ever take risks anymore? Do they ever really care about the sorts of movies they're making? I guess if I ever want to see Dragonball/Z/GT done with fidelity, it might just have to come from the nation that spawned it.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

In the Dragonball series, the Dragon Balls kinda take away the consequence of everything.  Earth was destroyed twice.  On multiple occassions, large scale genocides were inflicted.  Majin Buu singlehandedly killed every man, woman, and child on the Earth, and that was some time before he blew up the Earth, and several other planets.

I actually love the Dragon Ball shows, but they're still pretty silly.

Doctor Who?

I never liked the show really(I will watch it because i laugh every time)but i thought the movie sucked because there was just a bunch of stupid comedy and no one was throwing fireballs at each other.  Also who decided that Goku should act like the movie version of Peter Parker?

I think that GT kind if made it hard to press the old reset button with the Dragonballs though. Basically relying on them too much caused them to become twisted, perverted versions that still granted wishes but with a hell of a payback to getting the wish granted. If I recall correctly Goku had been entrusted with guarding the Dragonballs seeing as how he swallowed them all and went back to the heavenly realm with the Dragon.

Plus what I'm really referring to is a live action franchise more befitting the name of Dragonball. In order to do these movies right you need quality persons working on the project who want to make a good movie, not a rush job.

Exactly, this is the problem with the whole movie, not so much the casting for me, (James Marsters was great as Piccolo if only he was a little greener and had antennae. Plus it seems the bean counters at Fox didn't want to give up enough money to beef up the Oozaru FX.) but the fact they turned Dragonball into a big WB superhero comedy. I know that the Dragonball line does have comedic moments in there, mostly in the original Dragonball series, but it was paced with a lot of action and tense combat as well.
