I actually preferred the second Pirates movie to the first.  Perhaps it was the differing levels of expectation I had when I watched them, but the first one was a disappointment, while the second was a pleasant surprise.

J-Proof

I was pleasantly surprised by both =)

I'd say it was one of Pixar's worst, if not, the worst. It was cliche ridden. Something I don't expect to find in a Pixar film at all. It was Doc Hollywood but with Cars. Very disappointing movie.

hehe, I liked doc hollywood too. Over the hedge was the best animated movie last year (not pixar if memery serves)

I think I'm one of the few who loathed Over the Hedge. All the praise I've seen it for is just that it doesn't have any pop culture jokes. That doesn't mean crap if the jokes they have in it are crap.

There was nothing special about Over The Hedge. It was bland, with cute characters, decent voice work, and absolutely nothing new. Nothing. Not even very clever. The only thing that saved it from being 100% forgotten was Hammy, voiced to perfection by Steve Carell.

Sure, Cars was cliche-ridden, but the object of the film was not to be clever but to reiterate an important truth: If you selfishly live life in the fast lane, you inadvertantly trample on those who care for you. You leave them in the dust to cater to your own needs.

end soapbox.

I loved the hell out of Over The Edge. The Ben Folds music helped, but regardless I thought it was funny, smart, sweet, and most importantly fun. All that from the studio that dumped a steaming pile of Shrek on the world? Weird.

Cars, on the other hand, was overlong and preachy. Not Pixar's best, but miles ahead of anything else Disney has to offer.

I was a little let down by the second (but I reserve judgement until they finish it; plus, it seems to work better on the small screen) but the first was just ace. What's better than Pirates? Zombies. What's better than Zombies? Zombie Pirates!

lol a lot to say on this topic but ill sum:

1.  hated over the hedge thought it was insipid and it felt rushed

2.  Loved cars.  good ol' americana as far as i am concerned.

3.  Pirates 2 was fun as all get out and i really enjoyed it.  Looking forward to the third.  The concept of Davy jones made me mad when i saw trailers, then i saw what they had done with it and was amazed at the movie and especially davy

4.  anyone who thinks 2d is dead needs to see a miyazaki movie :)

I loved Cars, and also thoroughly enjoyed Over The Hedge.  Pirates 2 was excellent.  And I enjoyed Pirates 1 as well.  So, pffbbbbbbbbbbt to everyone else.

Didn't like Cars but it was still worlds better than anything Disney has brought out themselves in YEARS, Monsters Inc was FANTASTIC.

I'm very worried that movie could be Rocky's Pacifier, he's actually developing as an actor very quickly so I hope it's good.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

Pak-Man

Cars and Nemo are 2 Pixar movies I expected not to like, but ended up liking a LOT. I don't expect to care about cars and fish, but I do by the end of the movie, and that's no small feat.

Pirates rocks all the way. I think the sequel is an example of the Star Wars syndrome, where people are SO impressed by a silly movie that they forget it's a silly movie and become disappointed when a silly sequel comes out. :^)

I remember when I saw the teaser in theaters for pirates 1, and we all looked back and forth at each other shaking our heads...."What the hell is Disney doing?" Then a FLIPPIN' SKELETON FOOT STOMPED ON THE SCREEN and we were like... "AAAH! FRICKIN' SWEET!!!"

I was still reserved about seeing it and didn't see it opening day, but my friends all went anyway and we're like "JP! You gotta see this movie! Depp kinda talks like you....." Which sorta offended me at first when I finally saw the movie; but then I took it as a point of pride lol.

Once I saw the movie, I was hooked on pirates, man.... Pirates 2 sealed the deal. Davy Jones, Captain Jack, AND Barbossa at the tail end.... was most shibby....

Who is your favorite captain anyway? Mine's a tossup between Sparrow and Barbossa. And I think Miss Swann and Jack would make a better couple than Swann and Will (even tho it'll never go down that way).

Undoubtedly Barbossa.

Geoffrey Rush just oozes awesomeness in this role. He's much more convincing as the type of figure who could command the obedience of his crew. Funny thing is, Rush is quite scrawny. Sure, he's fairly tall, but he has little to no physical strength. Yet, Barbossa is one badass mofo!
