Disney in 07

Since Disney has decided to cut back on the number of movies it makes in a year, many of the people I work with thought that this might actully make their movies better since they would be putting more money into those movies. Turns out this may not be the case with all of them. Here are the current movies that they have in production and are planning on coming out with this year.

Bridge to Terabithia- While the graphics look amazing, looks as though they just decided to jazz it up a bit and are changing the whole story around to make it more exciting. While we all know how the book ends, since this is Disney, care to take any bets on that that ending will change as well. I think it will. On the whole though, doesn't look too terribly bad and i'll probably see it either when I go movie hopping (i'm so bad lol) or when it comes to my dollar theatre. Either way it's free ;)

Meet the Robinsons- Is anyone else sad that Disney decided to go to fully CG and are no longer doing hand drawn animations (cept for all the freaking sequels they do). Anyway, this looks to be the first fairly decent movie since Brother Bear (though I havn't seen Chicken Little yet). Again, doesn't look too bad but leave it to Disney to screw things up now. Will be seeing on my movie hop day.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End- While I only really got to see about 3 secs of the actul movie itself, we get to know that Captain Jack Sparrow does return (that was obvious) but it would seem almost that he returns fairly early in the film almost. But who knows since it was only 3 secs. It will be a movie that I will probably pay for to see or will be one of the movies on my movie hop list.

Ratatouille- While I myself personally puts Pixar movies in a seperate catagory from Disney films, it only makes sense to put it here as well. Pixar almost seems that it can't do wrong. While Cars was a bit touch and go with me for a bit, that movie did grow on me. It will be interesting to see how this movie turns out since I have liked all Pixar movies that I have seen. Chalk another one up to movie hopping day!

Underdog- Never Fear, Disney is here! Great scott! Disney has to take a classic cheesy cartoon (that many adore) and make it even more cheesy. I die a little inside each time I reamber that this movie is being made. Sure they need to come out with a movie for the kids during the summer but I am betting that this will flop for them as well. And by them I mean Disney. Odds are I will just see it at my dollar theatre.

The Game Plan- Starring The Rock (whom I think isn't that bad of an actor really), stars in a most comical movie to his credit. Again, it's a Disney film so who knows how it will turn out. Could be interesting, but plan on it not to be hit. Another one for my dollar theatre.

Enchanted- Coming in November, anything really goes with this movie. It will have the only hand drawn animation it would seem for disney in a main stream film this year. Unfortunitly, it only seems that it will last about 5 min of the whole film before the princess gets shoved into the real world. Depending on my busy schedule, take it or leave it for my dollar theatre.

Well, Ratatouille is directed by Brad Bird, who's last couple of animated films were The Iron Giant and The Incredibles, two excellent movies.  I wonder how John Lasseter's role as "creative director" will help the output of the current crop.  Perhaps it's too early to tell, as the films being released now were probably greenlit under a previous regime, but I am looking forward to a couple of movies on that list.

If it doesn't say Pixar, it'll suck. If it says Brad Bird, it'll rock. That is all.

Pirates of the Carribean are some of my favorite movies. I'll be first in line to see the new one

Yeah, I liked the Incredibles a lot, and Nemo was good, but the rest of Pixar is rather spotty. I loathed Monsters INC and I didn't even bother to see Cars.  Toy Story I/II are both overrated (and Randy Newman must die a horrible, lingering death).

Randy's work is so-so for me. His voice is ok in small doses, but most of his songwriting is excellent. I especially liked the tune Sarah McLachlan sings in Toy Story 2, which was written by Newman.

I eagerly look forward to any Pixar movie when it gets released.  And I'll definitely be there for Pirates 3.  But, Bridge To Terabithia?  HELLLLLLLLLL NO.  I remember when we watched the original movie version of this in school, and it was one of the first times in my existence that I uttered the phrase "Are you fucking KIDDING ME?" at the "plot twist" at the end.  Needless to say, Mrs. Callahan was not too thrilled at my saying that.  Oops!  Sorry!

It is sad, but word is that John Lasseter ( Pixar exec who has been involved in more Disney projects ever since Disney bought Pixar ) has apparently been trying to push disney back into doing traditional animation again which would be great. Meet the Robinsons actually looks kinda good. Atleast it will be better than that piece of junk known as Chicken Little.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer the look of the traditional animation over the Pixar stuff.
I used to be somewhat interested in checking out Disney stuff until they released movies with Pixar involvement.

Excluding Pixar's new movie, it's going to be an awful year for Disney. If the third Pirates movie can be better than the mediocre second one and as good as the well made first one, then, it makes it slightly less crappy.

I actually liked Pirates 2 - had some interesting stuff. You all know she liked kissing Johnny more than Orlando =)
