When you've got a thousand opportunities for original riffs based on the intense dopiness of that guy... just seems like they don't have any original ideas.

Unlike some undiscovered, underappreciated geniuses out there who might happen to have a riffing business of his own.  One which shows nothing but pure, uncut originality 100% of the time!

...Yyyyou wouldn't be someone like that, would you, perchance? I doubt it, since if so you'd certainly have more dignity than to post on this site writing crap reviews of us all the time, while pimping your own stuff.

All the time? I think that's fairly short sighted.

True, should never say "all the time."  Or "never," for that matter.

Mea culpa.

They can have the nook as long as they let me keep my precious spiders.

I've done a lot of thinking about whether or not to reply to this. I didn't want to say something I would regret. I considered saying nothing, but I don't think that would be right.

I'm very disappointed to hear you say things like this. It seems uncharacteristically venomous. I don't think I come across how you portray me at all. I don't just write crap reviews. In fact, I don't write many reviews at all. I don't hate Rifftrax. Yes, I thought many newer releases were heavy on references and overused/obvious jokes, but I also think Rifftrax has put out a bunch of great ones. Twilight was excellent.

Let's also remember that I am talking about the sample for Tron, a Rifftrax Presents. I was not interested based on the sample because it seemed like it would be full of amateur riffs taken straight out of MST3k, and since they WERE amateur riffers, I don't think that was a bad call. I was surprised to hear that the riff was written (or partially written) by Mike, Kevin, and yourself, but it does not change my opinion of the riffs showcased in the sample.

As for the allegations against my company, QuipTracks... I'm hesitant to say anything at risk of looking like a douche. I will say two things. Firstly, we don't pimp our products. We have a thread for each release like everybody else and we bring them up in other relevant threads ("What's everybody working on", for example). Secondly, yes, we try very hard to avoid jokes that have been done to death, especially in our newer tracks (we did a few back when we were kind of crappy at riffing, which I regret). We take our time, making sure our tracks meet our admittedly high standards, and I think our products speak for themselves. I also hope our customers can attest to our level of quality. But you've seen a QuipTrack, so if you thought it was totally lame and unoriginal, then I guess that is that.

I have a lot of respect for Rifftrax, you in particular, and it's painful to see a comment like this. I feel it was uncalled for. Maybe I did not interpret your post as it was meant to be interpreted, but it seemed very mean-spirited. I hope this response doesn't seem hot-headed or disrespectful, because I don't mean it that way. Type can have emotion projected onto it so easily.

Invader Quirk,

What Bill said does kind of seem harsh but I think there's something you need to understand too.  Because you do have your own site and riffing thing going on which can be viewed as a competitor (even though a few of them are iRiffs too), people can't know whether what you say is honest or not.  You might be speaking 100% honestly but nobody else can know that for sure.  Plus even if you feel its the truth, this is your own stuff so naturally everyone is going to have bias for their own stuff and not realize it.  So I think that it would be best that if you ever have negative comments towards anything Rifftrax does or is associated with, you're better off keeping them to yourself.

I'm not a regular on the site, I don't know you, and I have no idea if you're "always going around posting negative comments" or anything like that.  But I will say that anything you say against Rifftrax, as a competitor, won't be viewed the same as some other random guy having an opinion even if its far more negative than you've expressed.  Plus its very likely any comments you make will backfire on you.  Nobody new is going to want to check out Quiptracks if a representative of theirs gives the impression that he's bitter towards others and only wants people to buy his stuff.

I don't believe this is the case at all and I have yet to see any of these "negative reviews" other than this one post in the thread but just try to keep this in mind.  I'm sure you're a great guy and I'm sure Quiptracks is great and has moments where it shines above Rifftrax at times (I haven't seen any yet).  After all, how could Mike, Kevin, and Bill be the only guys who can do great riffs and be the best 100% of the time?  But in your case invader quirk there's no reason you should be pointing that out.  Let your fans speak for you if what you say is the truth.

Well, I think maybe it's not so much that you're ALWAYS posting negative comments so much as you rarely post outside of the iRiffs section of the board unless you have something negative to say.

If you look back at your most recent posts, maybe one post every page and a half is outside of the iRiffs section, and with the exception of the Twilight review (which came after Bill's comment) they are pretty much negative.

Maybe you only feel compelled to post when you have a criticism, (and I guess there's nothing really wrong with that) but on the other hand even if you HATE what the guys are doing (and I don't think that you do) at very least they have given you guys a huge leg up just by being here and putting you in touch with this community.

Maybe you could either make a point of saying the nicer things you think too, or weighing up just home much your criticism is going to actually offer.

I know you did state you'd only seen the sample, so certainly you were up front, but can you really judge any movie/comedy piece by it's sample?

Personally, I stopped watching the samples because taken out of context they never work for me.

Also, since you didn't see the movie, I do hope you weren't one of the voters above. ;)

Well, I am a fan of Quiptracks. They are my favorite current riffing group after Rifftrax. I seem to recall that Invader Quirk was here on the forums well before Quiptracks started, and I have not noticed him to be overly negative or down on Rifftrax. Just a fan like the rest of us. I'm surprised that Bill seemed to be so harsh on him, since there are several other people who have posted being a bit underwhelmed by this particular track. Myself included, and I started this thread! Given the incredible amount of support for fan riffing that Rifftrax has done, I dn't really think Quiptracks is really a direct competitor. They sell their product on iRiffs as well. I think the only way such comments would be true is if Invader Quirk had said the equivalent of "This riff sucks. Buy our riff of Van Helsing instead!", which was not the case.

Yes, I think Moleman and Grug just assume that Mike, Kevin and Bill have much thinner skin then they actually have. Probably just a projectionist way of thinking.

EDIT: Sigh.

Not at all - for starters I assume Mike and Kevin have no idea at all what goes on here.

I was just explaining to Quirk why he comes off as a complainer, which I think was what he was wondering?

Who is the sigh directed at? It seems to be directed at Darth Geek?
