QuoteHitting shelves now, the May issue of Empire features a Big Interview with Sam Raimi, a long and wide-ranging chat that featured the thrilling revelation that the god of gore has started work on a script for Evil Dead 4. "We've got nine pages so far.  Every time I'm with my brother Ivan, we write another page of it. It's in Detroit and in my garage."

Confirming that he has Bruce Campbell firmly in mind to reprise the iconic role of Ash ("Unless you think I should do it?"), Raimi shared some pointers on what the script has in store so far. "There's some dialogue. Ash being an idiot. Ash taking some abuse. Some character stuff and then some structure of Act Two. Just other possibilities for things that could happen. It's ideas, jokes, things we'd like to see."

It's still early days for the project then, but if you run into Ivan Raimi, it's well worth forcing him onto a plane to Michigan.

Sam is of course back shortly to scare us witless with Drag Me To Hell, and he enthused about his return to the horror genre - and a movie that's been a labour of love. "We decided we wouldn't make it if we couldn't do it the way we wanted to," he explained. "It's funny: usually you take that point of view with artistic-type films, but for me horror films can't be deluded either. They have their own cheesy integrity that needs to be stuck to."

The Big Interview features more from Raimi on Drag Me To Hell - by all accounts a cracking return to form (click here to check out the trailer) as well as plenty on the Spider-Man franchise, the origins of Evil Dead and - wait for it - his boyhood aversion to horror ("I had some intense experiences as a kid watching horror"). Pick up this month's Empire for the full interview.

Sounds like a good interview. My big question is, if Evil Dead takes place after the events of the first three, which ending of Army of Darkness would he use?

Personally, I always wished they had done Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash, and had it essentially be Evil Dead 4. Kind of like Freddy vs. Jason was another Nightmare on Elm Street movie. Use the ending where Ash is in the burned out future. Who destroyed it? Freddy and Jason working together, with the help of the Necronomicon. There is LITERALLY no one left, and Freddy and Jason have no one else to kill. It's a tour de force Bruce Campbell performance like the first half of Evil Dead 2 when he's alone.

I like Fango as much as anybody, but Freddy vs Jason vs Ash vs Alien vs Predator vs Leatherface vs Godzilla vs Frankenstein vs Dracula vs The Mummy vs The Wolfman should be left to the cartoons at the front of the magazine.

Drag Me To Hell looks awful. Why doesn't the witch just make a house out of gingerbread? Movie premise debunked in: 3 seconds.
