You need the full line: "Technology is Bonertastic"

Looky-looky! I found the Teacher's Manual to go along with the "Your Chance to Live" series.

I've only seen the sample so far, but I snort-laughed out loud at "Why did I get married so young?"
"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal." C. S. Lewis

This is just as insane as the shorts.  Where did you find it?

Check out the illustration from page 35:

Wow, and check out this text from the Technological Failures section, that this short was supposed to accompany:

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES: "Have students write the diary entry of the last survivor of a technological accident which has doomed all life on earth."

The Department of Education website!   :scared:    Here's the link to the video manual page

On the cover, is that....  Is that an eagle vomiting a ribbon with the title written on it?  On the pollution page I saw a naked man fleeing on foot across empty space from a planet shrouded in noxious fumes (page 56).  Pretty much all of illustrations in that thing are insane.

And speaking of insane, this is from the first page of the "technological failures" section. (Page 53)

QuoteChapter Goals
At the end of this section on technological failures, the student should:
1. Know basic fire safety rules and how to apply them in various situations.
2. Understand that technology and science bring both benefits and danger.
3. Be aware of the potential for tecnological failure and industrial accidents in the community and the Nation.
4. Accept the responsiblity of taking community action to lessen the danger of fire, technological failure, and industrial accidents.

Uh, did anyone get that out of the short?  Did anyone get anything out of it beyond a vague, overarching feeling of technophobic dread, and maybe a few moments of "Fire bad!  If you see one, you should probably put it out or something."

Also, from page 6, "No one ever buried a split infinitive."  Good to know.

Narrator: "Watching machines break down  (pause)  in old time moves  (pause)  aways seems to tickle us"
Riff:          "Watching people burn and die -- it just gives me the giggles!"

There's a distance shot of the narrator walking down the sidewalk, saying rambling lines with random pauses in mid-sentence.
Riff:          "So, They just found a guy talking to himself and filmed him, didn't they?"

Narrator says another long rambling bunch of words with lots of pauses, trying to sound serious and weighty.
Riff:          "Don't be fooled. that was not an actual sentence!"

There's a scene where the narrator is talking about a natural-gas fire, and shows some woman at a stove trying to put out a pot holder that has caught fire on one edge.  The narrator calmly talks about the steps you should do in that kind of situation, finishing with "get out, and call the fire department".  The next shot shows a house completely engulfed in flames.
Riff:          "Maybe bring the burning pot holder with you the next time..."

Narrator talking about new burdens due to technology: "Without electricity, there would be no electrical fires".
Riff:          "Without cancer, there would be fewer cancer-related deaths".

It's hard to do comedic justice to some of the riffs, as they key off how intensely serious the narrator is, and how the script seems so certain that the world was simplier, safer place before technology showed up to complicate our lives.  The script is not really against technology, but does imply that we should be terrified of it, and that some technology is just utter magic that we can't possibly understand.  (some of the riffs go off on how all of this must have been left behind by aliens)

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
