That's probably easier when they are live dvd's....  which is why I am not complaining TOO much for the "we're gonna do live dvd's!" thing.  But I do prefer studio over the live... more consistant.
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

Boooooooo......... Live.......

Oh well.

The last one was so well put together, that though I'd prefer a studio one, a live DVD doesn't bother me that much.  If it keeps CT a little more soluable, then that's a double plus.

Yeah, that's how I feel too.
FINE

I tried but I can't get by the "laugh track" effect.  I will go see them live for sure. I just won't be buying the dvds.

Yeah, I've harped on the "go back to studio DVDs" thing till I'm blue in the face.  I'm not a "take what they give you" kind of person.  I prefer the studio DVDs and will continue barking about it, regardless if it falls on deaf ears...  Thank God for Rifftrax.  I just wish Rifftrax released more old cheese and DVDs.  For those that share my opinion, I wouldn't expect studio releases from CT anytime soon (or ever...).  East Meets Watts was good, but I'm going to pass on CT until they get back to studio DVDs...

I thought the East Meets Watts live DVD was fantastic.  The "laugh track" of the live audience noise was so subtle that I barely noticed it after a while.

I'm looking forward to more live material from them.  The live stuff seems to have more energy than the studio offerings, which have come across to me as a bit lackluster.

The Rifftrax for new/famous movies still outsell VOD shorts and DVDs from what I understand. However, the good news is that the sales for things like Twilight (which hasn't left the top five bestsellers list since it premiered) help to finance those other projects. Maybe the money from Cinematic Titanic live shows and live show DVDs will eventually lead to more studio releases. At least they haven't entirely ruled out studio releases like I thought they were at one point. Plus it makes sense for them to re-release these as studio episodes so they can make more money off the rights to the same films.

I understand the logistics of it all, but one can hope...  I hope they haven't "ruled out" studio DVDs either, but if they are making just as much (or more) money on the LIVE releases of the DVD, it doesn't make much sense for them to go back to the pricier-to-produce studio DVDs.  But, I truly hope they do, regardless.

But they were getting better. The first couple of DVDs were wooden with no interaction between them (you could even see Joel flipping script pages at one point) but by the last two studio ones things felt looser and there was some interaction between the riffers.

I do have to say though that the new one has a WAAAAYYYYY better sound mix and the audience noise is not as loud as the east meets watts.

Well I think a certain amount of hope lies in the fact that they seem to recognize there are many fans who prefer studio material. I'd like to think that the cost of recording in a studio could be outweighed by the fact that they'll basically be recycling the same movies and the same jokes into a "new" product. All they'd have to do is add a couple theater sketches. Releasing the same movie in two "flavors" would also help their DVD release schedule a bit. They have different concerns then Rifftrax because they have to worry about negotiating the rights to their movies and they have to take them on the road for long periods of time before they place them on DVD (their secondary market). Heck, they might try to re-release some best selling studio titles (like Legacy of Blood) as live versions. That way they can go, "See DVD-only people, we haven't forgotten about you! It's another umm......new* release."

*Title may not be entirely new if you've already seen Legacy of Blood.

HA!  Yeah, I hope you are right.  It seems like an obvious choice to re-release studio versions of the live releases, and I'd be all for it.  I suggested possibly alternating live and studio releases, which would please everyone, I think.  But if they never put out another LIVE release, I'd be ecstatic with that--but that's not going to happen.  If they go back to regular studio releases after their next release (which I assume will be Danger on Tiki Island), then I guess I'll stop complaining.  Probably not though...

Oh, and I'm curious if people prefer the LIVE or studio versions, because I actually notice more support for the LIVE versions than I do the studio.  I don't know if the LIVE people are just more outspoken (possibly why they like to hear the roar of a dorky crowd) or if more people actually do prefer the LIVE releases to the studio releases.  Based on posts, the LIVE people seem to dominate the forums and comments.  I set up a Live vs. Studio poll on the MST3k forum, and right now the count is: Studio (74%) vs. LIVE (26%), but only 23 people have voted.
