I really wish CT would follow the Rifftrax Live model. $12.50 is a great price, the local theater venue was terrific, and every seat was good. $45 a ticket just seems a bit much for a movie riffing, even if it is "live" in the same room. I can live with "live" in another state as long as I can see it on a big screen for 1/4 the price.

I thought the premise was already established. They are riffing movies and preserving them for future generations. Each episode gives a little more background  or more bits about where they are. Do we really need another theme song spoon feeding you plot points?

I'm glad the premise makes sense to you. I'm still waiting for one.

God damn, some company needs to put out a Riffed feature.  Come on Rifftrax! There's a bajillion public domain movies that are worthy!

I don't understand the question.

Edward J Grug III

I think he's after a theatrical release like MST3K the movie?

But... Like it's really easy to just make a movie and get it distributed.
FINE

The deuce you say! I didn't know he released DVDs. Damn...

You can get them through Amazon, even.

It looks like the CT crew are in discussions about the topic that originally started this thread. This is from a recent interview with Joel.

LAist: You've said that you'd be open to the idea of airing Cinematic Titanic on TV someday. If you did, do you think it might be a live riff, or something like one of your DVDs?

Joel Hodgson: I'm not sure. As a group, we're kind of all over the place on that issue. I think that nothing can compare to our live shows, just because you have instant feedback and there's an energy to it. So personally, I think that's better.

On the other hand, there's also a faction of the fan base that really wants to hear every riff, so we're kind of messing around with the notion of "How do you do both—how do you do it so they can hear everything, and how can you do it so there's still that energy?"

The answer might lie in producing a DVD that includes the option of turning off the audience response. We'll see.

All they have to do is look at how RiffTrax did it for the Plan 9.  That was a really good live presentation. I have said here and elsewhere I don't see how they could record a live show and have it look good, but that is exactly what RiffTrax did. The movie was a constant hot feed (not a recording of a projected image) and they would occasionally show the riffers.

The only real criticism I had with the rifftrax feed were the shots of the audience (and to a lesser extent our riffers). I really didn't need to see the audience to tell us something is funny and the riffer faces occasionally popping up did serve as a bit of a distraction. It didn't add to the experience seeing them read their lines. It might be fun as an added feature (like using the "angle" shot on dvds), but that's all. I know its pretty common practice to try to include live aspects of the show... but it always annoys the heck out of me. If CT plans on putting out live dvds... I would hope they exclude crowd laughter from the original recording and any audience/riffer head shots.

MrTorso

If they were to omit riffer views from CT dvds then what happens to the "visual aspect" of CT that Joel says is needed?? He bags on RT because it is audio only.

I honestly don't remember crowd shots during the actual feature. I remember them before and during the song bits but during Plan 9 I don't remember. Did they just do shots like the riffer shots? Or did it actually cut away from the film??

They should really just use the 'KISS' theory..

Keep
It
Simple
Stupid!

I think they're trying too hard to do their own ideology of things and should just go with what's worked already with their first 7 DVDs ::)
