The latest rumor from IESB is that the Fox franchise is in line for a reimagining, with a new cast and a new director. The site claimed, "the franchise is looking to be 'less bubble gum' this time round following the 'Iron Man' template, which was a complete success in reviews and box office take but a bit darker when it came to its superhero. 'Iron Man' was in no way as dark as The Dark Knight but was funny, action-y as well as a bit on the serious side."
From Comic Book Resources.

They've been talking about doing this for Daredevil too but that was a while ago and nothing's materialized yet.  Still, it would be nice to see a good Dr. Doom, Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic and Human Torch.  Chiklis was a good Thing.

The question is who should be writing the script?  I would go with Grant Morrison with dialogue tweaked by Joss Whedon.  As for the roles... any ideas?

Marvel needs to get the rights to these characters back, out of the hands of Fox. Seriously, first it was Roger Corman and then Fox, there's a lateral move right there.

If done right these characters could make a really great movie. Also, I always wanted to see the movie poster be a live action recreation of the cover to their issue #1:

Now that would be a recognition of respect for the source material.

I like the implication that they did not try to make the FF movies funny, action-y or a bit on the serious side. WTF. Have you seen any movie ever? It's not like FF starred Jack Black. The Fantastic Four just attracts stupidity. They're like the internet of superhero teams.

So what, more funny, more action-y, and more a little bit seriouser? That'll fix everything!

How about just less boringier-y.

No, it's FOX that attracts stupidity.

I'd be happy if they could just get better casting. Jessica Alba as Sue Storm was one of the dumbest, most obvious "we need a big (hot) name in this thing or we'll never sell tickets to horny fanboys!" plots I've ever seen.

Johnny Unusual

Yeah, I always imagine The Invisible Woman as attractive, but not as a "babe" but more in a less Hollywood more down to Earth way.  Sort of the girl next door dealing with a nice caring but often distant and easily distracted husband.  While I disliked Alba in her role, we REALLY need a good Dr. Doom.  He needs to be impressive, intimidating yet regal.  He could actually be the greatest hero of all (considering his sense of honour and genius) but his insane ego push him to far.  Hell, this is a guy who outsmarted the Devil (albeit at a high cost), captured the power of both Silver Surfer and the Beyonder, overthrew a country almost single-handedly, and has actually has a much more impressive win/loss ratio compared to most other Marvel villains and when he does lose, it's often more of a set-back than a complete and utter defeat.

Here's my dream cast:

Jerry Seinfeld - Mr Fantastic
Queen Latifah - Susan Storm
Reb Brown - The Thing
Michael Cera - Johnny Storm
Dr Doom - Harvery Fierstein

bratpop

Why would you want Dr. Doom to play Harvey Fierstein? Harvey Fierstein isn't even in the Fantastic Four.

They should probably just stop trying to make a F4 movie. The movie came out about 3 and a half years ago now, the sequel about two. I don't see the logic behind remaking a movie that came out not that long ago. I know they said 'reimagine', but it's basically the same concept as remaking a movie.
Killing me won't bring back your Goddamned honey!

I sorta liked the first FF movie. Yea, Dr.Doom was a bit of a letdown, Alba looked silly in the wig and the script had it's share of warts... but I thought it was a fun little popcorn movie. It's a bummer that every comic book out there needs to go thru the presto-chango machine that morphs them from something you enjoyed as a 10 year old into something you'll enjoy as a 40 year old. I don't see how that's being faithful to the source material... it's being faithful to the readers that have grown up and expect everything else to grow up with them.

bratpop

I don't see how they can make it any different apart from casting. Mr. Fantastic will always be stupid. Invisible Sex Object will always be a hottie with lame powers. The Thing will always be orange rock. And I don't know about you, but orange rocks are my least favorite kind. Johnny has the potential to be the most different, but it's unlikely they would cast someone who doesn't look like a douchebag. Though I suppose all they need is a good Dr. Doom, and then the fanboys will turn it into The Dark Knight despite how stupid and awfult the rest of the movie is.

Tha Lambawgeeny then, suh? Apples, pears, chimneys, bibbity boppity.

But it does bring up a great idea.  What comic character would you want to play a real character?  I think Rev. Jesse Custer would make a terrific Terrance Stamp.
I am not above projectile vomiting to get my way

I think they should go with the Ultimate FF; make them 18-20. Get Warren Ellis to write the script. Or maybe Damon Lindelof, or Drew Goddard, or Jane Espenson (who I nominate to write everything, including the remake of I Spit On Your Grave).

And I nominate Bea Arthur as Sue Storm... or the Thing...

And maybe Bill Corbett as the evil Hatemonger.

The Saint of Killers should play Clint Eastwood.  They're basically the same now anyways... :)
