Yeah and it's only not a single take due to technological constraints, if Hitchcock could have crammed the film necessary into a spool he would have.

You know that it wasn't really all one take....but it's so skillfully hidden that it doesn't matter.
Oh yes I know, but he wanted it to be, and he couldn't get a camera that could take the amount of film needed. To think what he could have done with a digital camera. :)

Well, the thread starter's question has been answered, so let's hijack this thread to list our favorite long takes....

A few off the top of my head are:

The walk & talk at the beginning of Pulp Fiction (foot massage conversation).

The opening scene of The Player.

Oh yeah, and you gotta see this one from The Protector:

Heated Seats iRiffs: Touched by an Angel | Marked for Death | Runaway | Heated Shorts (shorts collection)

OTC316

Check out this one from Johnny To's "Breaking News". Sorry I couldn't find one with english subtitles.

One of my favorite longish takes is the hospital shoot out in John Woo's Hard Boiled. A nice 2-3 minute sequence with loads of squibs and gunfire and only one edit.

Spoiler

I also like Josh Becker's Running Time with Bruce Campbell that simulates a real time one take.

Ah... we've made the jump from single-take films to regular old single-take shots. I have to go with the opening shot from Touch Of Evil as one of my all time favorites. I'll try searching out a YouTube clip or something later, for those who haven't seen it. Good stuff.

I'm okay with this transition. Master shots are really great if you can pull them off.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

There's a similarly impressive long take in the French film, La Haine.

The opening scene of The Player.

I'm sure I had seen long takes before in movies... but this was the first example of recognizing it when it happened without knowing ahead of time that it was coming. It's a pretty good movie overall to boot....

I know you all don't enjoy Firefly, but I've always loved the opening scene from the movie Serenity

For some reason it's in French, but still fun to watch.

Doctor Who?

I just watched the 1996 version of Hamlet and it had some really long takes in it.
