You should probably rename the thread "Little shop of DVD covers" or "Seymour DVD covers" get it?  ;D
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Thanks for the suggestion. For the life of me I couldn't think of anything witty.

I also updated my first post with my new cover. Enjoy!

Where on earth did you find the "smiling Jack" image?

I dug it up on the www.mega-search.net website (search engine for dvd covers). The resolution for covers usually suck pretty bad bad on that site... but this one was manageable.  What kills me is the fact that Jack has only a few minutes of screen time. Kind of a bad surprise for the guy who bought the dvd based on that cover. I think it was an italian cover if I remember right.

I just have to comment... this was a pretty bad movie even though it was a comedy. The movie felt like it had no idea what it was doing. Good for riffing though.

It was on the American black and white and colorized video editions released back in the 1980s. Most home video editions try to sell the film based on the appearance of Jack Nicholson. Even Genius Entertainment redid the cover for the Legend Films edition just so they could add Jack's face on the cover. That edition has since been discontinued when Legend started doing their own distribution, and the current version has Legend's original title of the plant with a bloody hand in the background.

I think most people buy the film on the basis of its longevity as a comedy cult classic, not Jack. Though you'll occasionally get a buyer based on the false advertising, I think most people are intelligent enough to figure out that some of the worse DVD covers (like those that show a later photograph of Jack) do not adequately sell the film, and those few that do get suckered in, you can chalk that up to bad advertising. Most people who see the film love it anyway, and the majority of the public doesn't buy it wholly for Jack.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!
