Doctor Who?

You just argue with people to argue with them don't you?

There is no way you could think that make a lick of sense.

I'm pretty sure if this was a Special edition love thread you would be hating them.

The best way I could describe what lucas has done is this.

Take the Mona Lisa. Put a moustache on her. 95% of the painting is still the same... but you pretty much ruined it because of this minor change.  I guess if you're open minded enough you could overlook it and see the beauty of everything else. But lets face it.... we'll just keep looking at that damn mustache!

Apples to oranges.  Putting a mustache on a painting is a MAJOR change.  These allegedly horrible alterations made to Star Wars are more in line with, say, putting a mole on her right cheek.

My issue is so much with the changes as it is with the fact that he seems to only be making them now to spite his fans, fans that made him rich, and loved his work so much that we lined up three times to see his stupid prequels because we believed in him.

The saddest part is that he seems like a nice guy other wise if he could just get over this "i am the greatest story teller who ever lived and if someone doesn't like what I do they are just idiots" thing he seems to have been going through the past 2 decades or so he could be a great film makers again.

I don't think he is doing it for spite, he clearly had ideas about stuff he wanted to do in all the movies and went back and did them.  And he has the money and resources to go back and make them look the way he wanted.

That I don't have a problem with.

The idea of not wanting the original versions that lots of people love to be available to them is the harder one to understand, he can't be so out of touch that he doesn't know that millions of people want the theatrical versions on DVD and eventually hi-def, and those are the people that gave him the money he needed to go back and rework the movies.  So is it spite, stubbornness, massive ego, or what????

The comment I made was in a sarcastic way... so I figured that would happen. He can't help it... its in his nature.

I think a few people missed my point. It's not that star wars equates to a mona lisa in a form of art. It's that the enhancements stick out like a sore thumb. And these 'little' changes do in fact change the overall feel of the movie. Just as a mustache makes you want to laugh at a painting that wasn't funny to begin with. Lets all not over analyze this thing. Its meant to be a silly nonsensical comparison.

Okay, I've written a short play to help you understand. Apologies for using copyrighted characters. *ahem*

Mr. Wilson: Why, hello, Dennis! Please come into my house and enjoy these cookies I made.
Dennis: Your house is ugly! Your cookies taste bad! Will you buy me some Chips Ahoy?
Mr. Wilson: These cookies took me all day!
Dennis: You dress funny! You smell and I hate you!
Mr. Wilson: ...Oh, all right. I'll drive you to the store and buy you your Chips Ahoy.

*later*
Dennis: Hey, this is a small box of Chips Ahoy! I wanted a large box!
Mr. Wilson: But I...
Dennis: MYARGH!!!!
Mr. Wilson: Oh alright. Here's some special Chips Ahoy made of magic and there's a free puppy in every box.
Dennis: No! I want the original Chips Ahoy!
Mr. Wilson: But I...

Dennis breaks Mr. Wilson's window with a slingshot and burns his house to the ground. Mr. Wilson commits suicide and leaves Dennis a large box of original Chips Ahoy in his will. Dennis, still the jerk son of a nerd who didn't raise him right, gets morbidly obese and dies alone of a heart attack at age 37 on a couch full of Cheetos and porn. No one comes to his funeral and he burns in Hell for the rest of eternity, while Mr. Wilson gets a jetpack and a racecar and hangs out with Elvis in Heaven.

The End

Doctor Who?

Your play is wrong.

It's more like I paid for a big box of Chips Ahoy and the clerk hands me a smaller box of cheaper cookies and charges me for the big box of Chip Ahoy and when I ask for my money back or the Chips Ahoy the clerk screams HEY I KNOW WHAT I AM DOING NOW GET OUT OR I'LL CALL THE COPS!

No!  You are wrong, which means I am right, which means I am better than you, which means you are worse than me, which means your genitalia are in some way less significant to the Universe than mine, which means I am strong and funny and appealing to girls.

I dunno, I've listened to his commentaries and interviews over the years, and I don't get any sense of intensity about that at all.  I think he likes making movies and likes driving innovation for movies and he doesn't really "get" the splash that Star Wars made for so many of us.  He's not plugged in to the fandom of it at all.  Whether he "should" be or not is a valid, or at least kinda fun, question to debate, but the rest of it?  I guess I'm trying to say that I don't take the Star Wars stuff any more seriously than he does.  And it is his playground.

Well, we've heard about the SW and ESB special editions. What did you guys think of Jedi?

No way they could polish that turd at all.  Although replacing the truly embarrassing sail barge model shots of the original with the CGI stuff was a valiant effort, they couldn't replace the bad story, cheap sets, bad editing, bad acting, bad costuming, bad story, bad directing, bad score, and the rest of the bad FX without replacing the whole damned thing.

Another Death Star.  Fagh!

Replace all you want, but you know you have to keep the slave lea scene. Lucas always gives his fans a little skin for the female characters. Deep down lucas is perv. We all know it. Hell, he even had a bit of incest thrown into the mix.
