Dane Cook is the biggest standup comic in the US right now. 'Nuff said.

To take this discussion off on a tangent, I have to agree with Teaflax about Dane Cook.  I've seen a few bits of his stand-up work on YouTube and felt that it was just terrible.  I get that he's got some kind of charisma, but his material is unoriginal and weak, with poor delivery.

Sure, Teaflax has taste.

A particular one that doesn't like Die Hard.

Does that mean it's a bad movie? Does that mean you don't have taste if you like Die Hard?

It means you have a different taste.

It also means that anyone who's taste differs from mine is stupid.

;)

We may have differing opinions on Die Hard, but I'm glad that we can all agree that Dane Cook is a friggin retard.

OMG, Shut up you guys I love Dane Cook. He is like totally awesome and stuff and so funny and lmfao lol imo sas...

Ha! Got ya.

The guy is pretty stupid. I tried listening to Retaliation once, and when it was over, I looked up, and there was a huge question mark above my head for some reason. ;D

Gimme my Mitch Hedberg(God rest his soul) cd's and I'll be on my merry.

As long as we're on the topic of "The Franchises That Wouldn't Die," I might as well include this quiz, which, despite being from the money-grubbing whoresite youthink.com, is still pretty damn funny.

Not that anybody cares, but, coincidentally, my results were as follows:

Which inevitable film franchise sequel are you? *

Die Hard 13: Die really really really hard. Really.

Terrorists, trained military personel, special forces, terrorists in helicopters can't kill one guy in his underwear. You know it's going to be a bad day when Bruce Willis gets into the elevator in a dirty vest.

The only truly funny bit of Dane Cook's that I've seen is the vomit-breathing dragon:

(You can skip ahead to 2:20.)

And it's really not all that funny.

Somebody should start a Stand-Up thread...

Gimme my Mitch Hedberg(God rest his soul) cd's and I'll be on my merry.

I think Mitch is ok. Reminds me of a newer version of Steven Wright. I even saw Mitch Hedberg live once. Too bad it was on a night he decided to get absolutely trashed. He came staggering on the stage with two drinks in his hands and proceeded to BOMB big time. He couldn't remember any jokes, people were trying to tell him jokes to say. Audience members were streaming out of the venue. People were throwing random pills on stage and he was taking them. The venue was the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix and they have a circle stage that revolves. At one point he was just lying in the middle screaming (mockingly) about how fast it was going. He would try to tell a joke and he would give the set-up and then he would start laughing at the punch-line and never finish. It was like watching a Andy Kaufman bit. At one point some bible-thumper comes up to the side of the stage and hands Mitch a card that said "Jesus Loves You" he threw it back at the guy and said "Not tonight he doesn't!" By the end of it I was the only guy left in like 12 rows of my section before a handler got him off the stage. He apologized for it on his website and promised a free make-up show but then he was dead within a couple of weeks.

Sharktopus, I demand you take that video down. What an absolutely horrible piece of crap.

What's the appeal, I ask you? I'm a baby, rub some honey,  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

It should have been Cook instead of McConaughey getting eaten in Reign of Fire at the end, by his own vomit breathing dragon. I hate to feel that way, but it keeps Josh Lucas from moving into power. ;)

Pak-Man

The spirit of Mitch Hedburg seems to have rested in the body of Demitri Martin. Check him out if you've never heard his stuff. :^)

That clip of vomit breathing dragon feels like a weak retread of Bill Hicks' devil routines.  "Ah, back again MC Hammer...? SUCK SATAN'S COCK!"

And that was never Hicks' strongest stuff either.

I didn't say it was good, just that it's Dane Cook's best, which is very very sad. I hate most of his stuff, but I must admit that the idea of a vomit-breathing dragon makes me laugh.

We got a Bill Hicks DVD recently and I was all aboard the Hicks bandwagon until he started his Goat Boy schtick. That made me lose a lot of respect for the guy. I'll admit that he had big brass balls, but I'm looking for laughs, not preaching social commentary.

I think I'll start a dedicated Stand-Up thread under General Discussion. Hey, Torgo's Pizza, could you move some of this stuff there?

Magi

I think we need a Brain Poshen stand up DVD, and an actual performace piece from David Cross on DVD, both seem to have potental.

Umm did anyone else notice that John McClane seemed to be shooting a machine gun out of the bottom of his foot in that trailer?

There might be some terrible news for Die Hard 4, with a likely PG-13 rating:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/070503b.php

Fox screwed up by making Alien vs Predator PG-13, and subsequently ruining two R-rated franchises in the process.  Looks like they might be following the same path with this one.  If this ends up being true, I will be extremely fucking disappointed.  This was the only summer movie I was looking forward to.
