Russell I think you're confused.  Star Wars was retconned into being a bad movie after 1999.

but I would think that rifftrax would not want to alienate people like me who really love this movie

If they went by that motto then they wouldn't be able to riff any movie, every movie has it's hard core fans.  I'm sure even a stinker like "The Room" has some people out there that think it's great.  ;)

You should have expected them to do something like that, they like to do it to any movie that has a rabid fan base....

Yeah, but having riffed movies that actually were painful to sit through, you'd think that they'd appreciate Star Wars a bit more. Of course, I haven't listened to the riff yet, but that's just my gut reaction.

You should listen to it, it's a great riff, they really don't rip on the movie itself that much, it's maybe a little more harsh than say the first Indiana Jones movie riff.  I thought it was pretty funny and Star Wars is one of my favorites.  Don't judge it by riffs taken out of context.

Oh, I intend to. I did watch the Blame Society one and I think I already bought the Rifftrax. I have several riffs lying around, so to speak, that I haven't watched yet.

I just love how appropriate your avatar is for that comment.
