A new guy has a Dark Dilemma

Hello, I'm a first time poster, and NOT Trace Beaulieu or Bill Corbett  :P I'm a newcomer to getting rifftrax and have yet to get one of my own. I'm currently in a bit of a pickle, partly because there aren't any "instructions" posted on the site (FAQ notwithstanding) about how to download and use a rifftrax, but allow me to get in to the specifics of my conundrum.

This Christmas, my aunt gave me a Blu Ray copy of "The Dark Knight," which would play just fine on my Playstation 3.

However, as far as I can tell (and correct me if I'm wrong), rifftrax only works on a computer. My laptop is a Dell XPS dating back to 2006, so I'm pretty sure it won't work with Blu Ray. My PS3 does not have an internet connection, so I'm in a bit of a squeeze on what to do. Is there any way to transfer the rifftrax to the PS3 other than directly over the intrawebs, or am I up the creek without a paddle unless I trade in my Blu Ray copy for a regular DVD?

The absolute easiest way is to download the MP3, stick it on an Mp3 player and when the introduction tells you to press play on the Rifftrax, it should synch up nicely.  It shouldn't matter if it's Blu-Ray, DVD, or even VHS.  :)

Welcome, by the way!

Yeah, if you had a standard dvd you could play it on the rifftrax player program, but that's just a convenience, the original method is using a separate mp3 player with the rifftrax while watching the movie on your tv.  All the instructions you need are on the mp3 itself, start that first and listen for the next step.  Its easier than it might seem at first.

Ah, and therein lies my problem. I don't have an MP3 player. :(

Thanks for your patience though, I'll scrutinize your answers a bit more closely and think about my options.

But you do have a laptop.  You could play the rifftrax on media player while watching the movie on your ps3.  Of course I don't know how good your laptop speakers are.

Well keep in mind the MP3 Player doesn't have to be state of the art. Most Rifftrax MP3s are around 100 to 110 megs, so you don't need the 200 gig monsters they have out there. Here's one that's 12 bucks, used. Just unplug those earbuds and plug in a cheap set of PC speakers. Well worth gaining access to Rifftrax. :^)

Or plug some PC speakers into your laptop :)

I also have question for the forum that's more of a moral dilemma.  My friend and I have been working on an iRiff for the Jodie Foster movie "Nell" for a while (mainly due to hectic work schedules, it has taken longer than thought to record and edit).  The problem is I learned today one of "Nell"s co-stars, Natasha Richardson, is in the hospital following a skiing accident.  It seems harsh and callous to be making fun of one of the last movies she had a large part in, not to mention the one where she and her husband, Liam Neeson first met.  We are thinking of scraping all our work and just starting an iRiff for a different movie.  What do you think?

Yeah, I've been reading about it.  The best thing I can advise is that you put the stuff a way for a little while.  If the worst comes to the worst, and she dies, then it'd probably be in bad taste to do it now.  But in 6 months or so...  I mean, the guys did The Dark Knight.

Doctor Who?

You can always burn the MP3 file to a cd and listen to it on your CD player.

That's what I did for a while.

Also you could do what I do or rent or buy the DvD version used cheap and then use the Rifftrax player.

They did also release Ocean's Eleven the same week that Bernie Mac died. Maybe it depends on how much you attack her performance?

Yeah, I suppose.  As long as it's not "Joe Don Baker" personal, then it can be alright.
