I personally wish they would have done Rudolph because it's my favorite claymation Christmas movie ever and it's  more popular than Nestor but I love Nestor too.  Who can't love a long eared donkey who saves Christmas by remembering he was born in a manger and deciding baby Jesus should be too?  It's the bestest!

Argh!  No spoilers!

Damn it, now the film is ruined for me.

Oops, I figured everyone had seen it! I would go back and edit my post, but it's been quoted so it wouldn't do any good.  That's just a tiny part of the movie and you can see it coming from miles away.  That's not the main thing Nestor does, it's just the last thing he does before he's murdered and served for Christm....oh crap, I did it again :-)

Ah, well, at least it has a happy ending.

I love this one. Nestor was one of the cutest bits of claymation I'd ever seen as a kid, and I was a big Rankin Bass fan. Still am, Rankin Bass is corny, corny stuff, and that's fun stuff to watch by itself. My dad used to get them on tape from a cousin in New York (I don't think they show them here, a pity really, there's not near enough silly corny children's television here). It'll be real cool to see it riffed.

I'd never even heard of the thing.

I'd also like to hear why they chose this over Rudolph.

Probably because of all the people on this board complaining about them doing movies we like. I, personally, love the more popular movie choices . . . mostly because I already own those movies and I can have a sense of humor about it.

Gah, I have not been able to get that stupid, Dominick the Christmas Donkey song out of my head since this was announced!  :o

I was thinking more along the lines of: "We didn't choose Rudolph because there was too much singing and Nestor didn't have as much singing".

You never know, maybe there was a special reason they they couldn't riff Rudolph? Or maybe Mike has been scarred from Nester, when he was a child, and now he wants 'payback'  ;)

AmandaGal

I was thinking maybe Mike just wanted a break and decided to go for a shorter flick.

See, I'm not the only one that refers to it as claymation.  That 20 question clue was crap.

My completely uninformed surmise: For the same reason they didn't choose "Jingle All the Way"--it's essentially a comedy. It has some supposedly serious moments, but even those are pretty camp. Just because it's beloved doesn't make it riffable.

All Claymation is stop-motion, but not all stop-motion is claymation. Claymation was a trademark phrase used by the people behind California raisins. TECHNICALY even Gumby couldn't be called claymation, in the same way you don't call every tissue Kleenex.

We didn't pick a movie "over" something, we just picked a movie.  Nestor will make for a funny RiffTrax.  Maybe Rudolph would too.  But Nestor will be funny, and it's something new.

Just remember that it's on this DVD:  http://www.netflix.com/MovieDisplay?movieid=60002413&trkid=189530&strkid=887043295_0_0

and here:

Oh, and if you don't want confusing 20 Q answers, don't ask vague 20 Q questions!

Boy, people love to give you guys crap no matter what movie you pick, don't they?

I was more surprised than upset that they chose a rather obscure Rankin/Bass holiday special.  I'm sure that it will be every bit as funny as if they had done one of the lame Rudolph sequels.

I am also a bit surprised that they chose something that seems to only be available in Region 1.  After all the negative discussion of downloads, bit torrents, and newsgroups on here, they go and release something that practically begs everyone not in North America to use less than legitimate means to obtain.  Heck, the mods even linked to a copyright infringing version on youtube.  Are they suggesting that people buy the Rifftrax, and then use the youtube version to watch it with?  Seems to be a bit of a double standard here.  Report to us if you see any bootleg Rifftrax available online, but go ahead and watch this other bootleg after you buy our product.

As for all the negative comments towards the choice of Nestor, I think it is just a growing pain of an ever increasing fanbase.  The more people that become avid fans of Rifftrax, the more likely that some will be vocal about the choices made.  I just hope that this negative feedback doesn't make the Rifftrax folks grow to resent or even hate their customers.

Now about that New Year's Rifftrax...   ;D
