The movie is public domain aka free for them to riff. They'll never be able to replace the line
Vlodar: "Korg , crush them!" (don't remember the robot's name)
Crow or Tom  in robot voice: "You were adopted."

Surely there was another PD Christmas movie they could have gotten?

Just off a quick archive.org search, here's one they could have gotten

Yeah, you'd think..

Maybe they should ask the fans what they should riff next.. Kinda like what The Film Crew did, or at least let us submit some recommendations :-\

Check out the one I linked to above. Short, yes, but it would have not been a retread, and they could have paired it with any number of PD christmas cartoons to bump up the length.

Oh Yeah! That would've been a good one..

Maybe the RiffTrax crew could attack this one for the holidays :o

Same here.  I'd be just as against the idea of Mike, Kevin, and Bill deciding to riff a movie that they already did on MST3K.
Interesting...

I haven't gone back to look at the other threads regarding Plan 9, so I may be mistaken here, but I don't seem to recall any huge waves being created when Mike re-did his Legend commentary with the three Riffers. So it's interesting to me that so many people (not just here but elsewhere) seem to have reservations about Cinematic Titanic's film choice. To me, it seems like Mike has done the same thing (and much more recently and with repeated material) and yet the Titans are met with more resistance. Why? I'm not trying to start anything, just genuinely curious.  :)

Because people like to whine?

^  An unfair statement but complaining about it here rather than on the CT forum really doesn't do any good.

Well, MST3K never riffed Plan 9.  Mike did that as a solo riff right before he started up Rifftrax.  So, it's a little different.

A lot of the resistance is probably due to the fact that there's a lot of nostalgia behind the MST3K episodes.  So, when they go back to redo them the general consensus seems to be "What's the point? It was great the first time around."  At least, that's how I feel.

We also like to voice our opinions.  But I suppose that's not cool unless you're a complete fanboy of the subject that you're addressing.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Looks like I corrected my statement a little too late.

You're right, it is different, but I would argue that it's not by much. I'm sure Mike would like it if you bought both.  ;)

Anyway, it's just a thought that popped in my head, because I was a bit surprised by people's reservations about it. But hey, to each his own right? It's all good.  :)
