I'm getting a little tired of all these recent movies.

Sometimes Grug can't figure out what to correct people on, so just makes lists. Did anything on that list correct you? Well screw you. He's Grug, dammit, and he'll correct you even if it doesn't make sense.

And sometimes bratpop  doesn't read (or perhaps understand) posts before he tries to be clever.

For bratpop's benefit:

Roninfox suggested that we might get a thread complaining about all of the old movies, and then ImOscardotcom said only if they do 5 or 6 old movies in a row - only it turns out they have!

Well then why didn't you quote a reply to THAT post?  I read your list several times, and in the context of the bratpop quote, it didn't make any sense.

Yeah, Ed!  You probably use abbreviations, too, don't you?  You bastard!

Since you've taken such umbrage to my suggestion that phasing into unintelligible acronyms in the middle of a sentence can be slightly annoying, I think that from this point on, I'll randomly substitute German words into my sentences.

Hahaha!  Go for it, sir.  And on the contrary, I find your whining about abbreviations amusing, not annoying.   :)

This is the Internet.  Proper response when told you are offending or annoying someone is to make fun of them for being offended or annoyed.  Under no circumstances should your own behavior be modified.

It is a weird one.  It'll cost you 10 seconds of your life to type the words.

I don't think "TPTB" is that weird of an acronym.

Now excuse me while I go watch a program about self-contained underwater breathing apparatus diving on the ultra-high-frequency channel of my television.

AFAIK, it is.  You only think so because you already know what it is, IYKWIM, AITYD.

You save what, 10 seconds by typing an acronym over a word?  How much extra time does the reader waste trying to interpret your gibberish?  Internet acronyms are so much about exclusion and inside jokes at the expense of communication.

I think that it explains my position.

HTH.  HAND.

Sorry but I'll continue to type TPTB instead of "The powers that be."  I will also type BTW instead of "By the way."  Why?  Because I feel like it.

Also, it's funny that you bring it up as if it's a big deal.  That's one of the few acronyms that I've ever used on this board and I've been posting here for years.  The fact that you had to go back four months to find a post of mine that contained an acronym kinda proves that.

I feel so horrible for the extra ten seconds it will take you to google my silly acronyms.  But I suppose that's your problem.

So, instead of going after me for something so asinine, you could drop the subject, cut me some slack, and let me use my silly acronyms once every few months.   :)

Honestly, I can't believe that such a stupid argument is taking place in the first place.  Of all of the things to go after someone for, acronyms on the internet?  Really?  Especially someone who uses them as infrequently as I do?  Wow.

I did drop it.  You brought it back up.

And stop implying that I somehow went digging through your past trying to find dirt on you, like some kind of thug or stalker.  These UBB boards leave threads up forever, and bump anything that is replied to back up to the top.  I could find a post from two years ago that was bumped, and it'd be new enough if I'd never seen it before.  Guess what?  The first time I noticed this thread was a few days ago after someone posted a reply to it.  I read through it, kept noticing this stupid acronym in place of a real phrase, and then made my comment.

Not that anyone on the Internet would ever admit that their foibles are their fault.  No, this has to be turned around to me, and it's MY problem for not understanding YOU.  I shouldn't have to run communication on an English speaking web board through a fucking translator, and I shouldn't be treated like I'm in the wrong for being frustrated by poorly constructed gibberish sentences.  If I wrote every post in German, should I just use the "go use Babelfish to interpret" cop-out?
