Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

A heads up:

Coming out April 21st

And - I apologize to people who liked this but - not enough people wanted to watch this for free so they felt they had to release it on DVD as soon as possible?

All the stuff that's M.I.A.......

Does it make any more sense to "cash in" on a show that was cancelled DECADES ago?

If It's been in syndication on and off since then (meaning there were enough episodes made) and is a fond memory of someone's childhood....yes.

Like, every show that had more than 6 episodes made in the past 5 years gets a DVD release.  It's probably built into the business model that networks use when greenlighting this stuff.

Oh, I know that that is exactly the problem.

But there are just so many manufacturing facilities out there to make these bits of plastic.  And while a place was cranking out this, that's some great older (or just plain old) show that couldn't get scheduled.

There should be a guildeline - you get cancelled within 8 shows and you can't get onto DVD for a year. Cancelled within 6 shows - a year and a half....or whatever.

No, they have to get those shows out as soon as possible while people still might possibly remember them.  Even the mega-popular shows of years past (Cheers, MASH) sell for a (comparative) pittance on DVD.

While they might still remember something they never watched to begin with?

Even if they didn't watch it, they'll remember TV promos, etc.

I'm certain that this is the reason these new shows get instant releases; strike while there's a possibility that ANYONE might buy it, let alone remember it.

I'd like to see numbers on that (minus rental outlet sales).

It's for the people who were too busy on Monday nights, hello.

And who's VCRs are still flashing "12:00".

Morons, in other words.   ;)

Could also be banking on people who did enjoy the show.

Did you know the boxed set for season 7 of 24 is coming out the day after the season finale?  THE DAY AFTER.

Know what else?  I'll probably buy it.

Jesus, PSCD. Some people are too busy for scheduled TV and might have heard about the show but didn't have the time or interest to watch it every week. So if they see it on DVD, they might remember it and think it's worth checking out. Don't make me poke you in the eye.

THE QUEEN!!!

Sorry to go back to the main topic. but..

There are a lot of classic movies that I want on DVD that just aren't released, like LILI and REMEMBER THE NIGHT. There are also some concerts I saw at the Hollywood Bowl that I wish were on DVD. And why doesn't PBS release all of those "Live from Lincoln Center"s on DVD, like Light in the Piazza? :(

Because they can't afford to rent time from manufacturers to run off copies because the manufacturers are booked by the big networks to make DVD sets of TV series that were cancelled a month ago after only two weeks because no one cared.....   :P
