Bah! you just like Buffy chewing on some clam.

Tripe

No, actually I can take or leave that aspect.

I like the continuance of the story.  I'm not the only one on the forumn who does either.

Where's TeamRAD this afternoon?

gbeenie

I'm with ya, Tripe. the Season Eight comic is terrific.

Im pretty sure this has been said before, but I agree with anyone who said Firefly.  Its an ok show, nothing spectacular.  Im not sure why people make a big deal out of it.

I believe this is the first time I've agreed with Sides on anything.  :D

Writing term papers...

Regarding the eighth season of Buffy, it hasn't been this good, notwithstanding some choice moments from S5, since Season 3.  This has really become a helluva ride, and I want the conclusion of ToYL!!

Thank you, Thank you.....I'll be here all week!  Try the Irish Car Bomb and remember to tip your waitresses.

Seriously, what was the point of that?  (I mean other than the fact that it is obvious Joss REALLY gets off on the girl on girl stuff).

I like what she did there.  The word "euphemism" became a euphemism for something else.  It works on so many levels....I'm so high right now.

Doctor Who?

I saw No country for Old Men last week and while i really liked it I'm not sure it deserved all those awards any more then The Good the Bad and The Ugly.

bratpop

No Country deserved... something. But There Won't Be Much Blood was really overrated.

Doctor Who?

You see I think No country was really just a remake of TG,TB,ATU.

Sure it was fun to watch but best picture I mean really.

I didn't watch there will be blood because i don't believe people are evil just because they make their living drilling for oil so I can't say if it was good or not.

You make an interesting point, but ultimately, I do not agree.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is much more layered, and it tackles an entire host of themes that No Country for Old Men does not.

Change is seen as almost entirely negative in NCfOM, while one of the major themes in Leone's work is that "progress" (usually symbolized by the railway engine) is a mixed blessing.  Men like Angel Eyes can exist because there is no "civilization" in the West to hunt them down yet.

Leone would not have allowed Anton Chigur to just walk away.  Leone woud have demanded some sort of closure.

Leone's film has a strong anti-war message and a traditional set-piece battle.

Leone's film depicts varying degrees of bruatlity and depravity amongst all people.  In No Country for Old Men, Chigur is evil, brutal, and remorseless.  This is a fair descripition of Angel Eyes.  You can even make the argument that Moss and Tuco are similar (more weak than "bad").  The problem is that the Good (Eastwood) isn't nearly as "good" as Tommy Lee Jones.  I can't see the Sherriff leaving a man to die in the desert, for example.  NCfOM is more or less Chigur against normalcy.  There is no "moral majority" in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.  Everyone is a shade of dark gray to black.  The exceptions exist only to make that point, such as the violinst who cries during the beating of Tuco.

Leone set out to make a modern fairy tale, or what he called "cinema cinema."  (Films that drew upon films, not reality itself.)  NCfOM is effective precisely because it is realistic.  Chigur is frightening, because such a man is believable.  The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is quite fantastic and surreal.  Leone's America is not America as it was, or as we remember it, but an America that never really existed, per se.

At any rate, I really appreciated your insight.  As you can see, it got me thinking, and that's half the battle (or something like that).

Really?  What an interesting stance, did you decide that based on previews, reviews or something else?  Do you make this kind of 'moral judgment' against movies often?
