But I thought prequel bashing was the hobby of choice around here?
Killing me won't bring back your Goddamned honey!

I'm all for it, but not in this joke thread.

Actually if you listen to the commentary during that scene, Lucas admits that if he'd known Bobba Fett was going to become the icon he would become, he probably would have given him a more dignified end. Then he said (And I quote) "Ahh, most people think he survived anyway."

SCREW dignified ends!! So what if Boba was a really cool character, with a badass-looking costume. Shit happens. You know?

I bet Boba, and his bottomless ego-maniacal self-importance, never thought in a million years that he'd meet his end at the hands (read: metal pole) of a man gone blind who accidentally hits his Rocketman backpack and sends him flying into the side of a sail barge and into the gaping maw of a Sarlacc. And the satisfying burp after devouring the tasty bounty hunter morsel was the icing on the cake!

In other words: Boba got PWNED!!

Said the man who is mainly responsible for the "Nobody dies in science fiction" bullshit in movies today.

And what definition of "surviving" are we using?  Because Jabba said that you stay alive in there for ages as your digested so...yeah, Bobba didn't die as soon as he fell in but....I don't call that "living", do you?

There's been at least one novel that says his armor protected him and he basically fought and ripped his way out like the "badass icon" he is.  But then, none of the novels are cannon so whatever.

Ah, canon. The last refuge of dorks who see their fantasy reality challenged. It's for those who believe they know better than the original creators how things should be.*

*Caution: Sometimes this is actually true, but please don't tell the dorks that, we don't want to embolden them.

RoninFox

It becomes extra entertaining when the arguments about what is cannon or not break out, or even better if there's more than one class of cannon to argue about.

Well, personally, I'd like to see George Lucas get shot out of a cannon.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

*geek grammar nazi enters*

One 'n' in Canon, thank you.

In Star Trek, I've heard reference to as many as five levels of authority in the Canon system. It's ridiculous.

RoninFox

Spellcheck you have betrayed me again.

I'm pretty sure there's at least that many levels of authority in Star Wars too, I remember someone posting an article about them that referenced things like exactly where the Holiday Special fits in.

Oh god, you're right. Read this and cry:

In 2000, Lucas Licensing appointed Leland Chee to create a continuity tracking database referred to as the "Holocron". As with every other aspect having to do with the overall story of Star Wars, the Holocron follows the canon policy that has been in effect for years.

The Holocron is divided into 5 levels: G-canon, T-canon, C-canon, S-canon, and N-canon.

G-canon is absolute canon; the movies (their most recent release), the scripts, the novelizations of the movies, the radio plays, and any statements by George Lucas himself. G-canon overrides the lower levels of canon when there is a contradiction. Within G-canon, many fans follow an unofficial progression of canonicity where the movies are the highest canon, followed by the scripts, the novelizations, and then the radio plays.

T-canon[1] refers to the canon level comprising only the two television shows: Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Star Wars live-action TV series. Its precedence over C-Level canon was confirmed by Chee[2].

C-canon is primarily composed of elements from the Expanded Universe including books, comics, and games bearing the label of Star Wars. Games and RPG sourcebooks are a special case; the stories and general background information are themselves fully C-canon, but the other elements such as character/item statistics and gameplay are, with few exceptions, N-canon.

S-canon is secondary canon; the story itself is considered non-continuity, but the non-contradicting elements are still a canon part of the Star Wars universe. This includes things like the online roleplaying game Star Wars: Galaxies and certain elements of a few N-canon stories.

N-canon is non-canon. "What-if" stories (such as stories published under the Star Wars: Infinities label), game statistics, and anything else directly contradicted by higher canon ends up here. N-canon is the only level that is not considered official canon by Lucasfilm. A significant amount of material that was previously C-canon was rendered N-canon by the release of Episodes I-III.
