Wild Child
Starring: Emma Roberts & Posh British Kids

I am yet to see this film, but judging by the trailer it is extremely stereotypical. When the dad says "You're going to boarding school in ENGLAND" (By the way, England isn't actually a country)- I guess the average American viewer is supossed to think "England = crap weather, posh, reserved people who all speak like the Queen"? And the whole trailer in general seems to be full of the image that British people all talk like the Queen and are extremely reserved.

So, it seems to me, the whole premise of this film is, British people are reserved, posh and lived boring lives lead by up-tight social conventions, no technology in school - only black boards, strict code of uniform, until the sophisticated American comes along and they all go "wild" and are set free? To be honest, you're more likely to find strict social conventions, and "posh" behaviour, and archaic equiptment in some American boarding schools. The upper-class in Britian died out in the 50s. I wish the UK would make some films which made use of the stereotypical American.

If you really want to know what England and British kids are like like, try Kidulthood, This Is England or the series "Skins", as i have previously suggested suggested, because they are actually a good depiction of British youth culture and what i've been through during my teenage years in London.

British people leave boring lives

I think you've been proving that lately.

Doctor Who?

When  is Hollywood going to learn that England isn't a country?

Never!

They have been making this mistake at least since Superman 4.

Well the credits always read filmed in Hollywood USA.

So I feel safe calling it Hollywood.

Er, I and all other Old Wykehamists, Rugbeians, Marlburians, Etonians, Carthusians, Harrovians, Roedeanians and others would rather beg to differ dear boy. ;)

You've gotta know what a crumpet is to understand Cricket!

Ah Cricket, it's ultimately like Baseball; Oh there is indeed something happening on the field but really it's mostly about the day out.

You want something really inexplicable, try some of the "football" variants played at the schools I listed just up there. :)

Incidentally the 2008, rules are crap.

I use that quote as often as I can.

Gah, when are you going to learn that Hollywood stereotypes are what the world goes by? If we didn't have stereotypes...where would we be?

They did.  It was called "Notting Hill".  Julia Roberts played a stereotypical American.  All Americans are glamorous movie star types.  Did you not know that?

See, now I thought all Americans sounded like rednecks
