So, when is Mystery Science Theater 3000 coming back?

There is such a big fan base and so many incredible crappy movies left to riff.

We need you.  You complete us!!!  Star Wars has been ruined.  Star Trek is in the crapper.  Battlestar Galactica is no more.  Stargate is off the air until April.  WE HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO WATCH!!!  This is the darkest of dark times in scifi fandom history, and we need at least ONE well established franchise the stand errect again, rebooted and reenergized, and not suck!!!

Mike, Kevin, and Bill - we need YOU!!!  We need another Dr. Forrester, a dopy sidekick, a thin fiction involving the captivity of a test subject force fed crappy movies, the facade of theater seats, and most of all, the wiseass sidekick bots.

Dont feel like being pupeteers anymore?  Dont want to deal with sets, etc?  CGI the whole damn thing!  Its not the 90's anymore!  They can do that now for pretty cheap!

Help us MST3K - you are our only hope!!!

MST gave us over a decade of their lives, and we're all appreciative. But I think they're done doing that. In my opinion, your best bet would be to support Incognito Cinema Warriors in their efforts. I think they're great.

But are they still there?  Haven't heard anything from them in over six months or so, have we?

Never.  It's off the air and has been for 11 years.  Get over it.

Yeah. Not gonna happen. And besides, we now have Rifftrax AND CT, not to mention iRiffs. Best of both worlds if you ask me.

Has it really been eleven years? Jesus. Makes me feel old.

Battlestar may be over, but Caprica is beginning to find its stride. You might wanna catch up on that show. I'd also suggest Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which has graduated beyond a crappy pilot movie to an extremely good show that's as equal to Battlestar as you can get for a family-oriented show, in the way that it explores the consequences of war and whatnot. Yeah, sure, the prequels kinda sucked - but you can't really call anything Paul Dini's written two episodes for "ruined." I'd also check out the DC Universe series of DTV PG-13 animated movies - all very good.

If you want funny commenting on stuff, there's always The Smoking Gun Presents: World's Dumbest... on TruTV. That's a damn funny show. There's also the panel discussions on Chelsea Lately. I could go on...

And honestly, just wait. Come June, there'll be a brand new season of Futurama on Comedy Central for you to squeal about.

But really, face it, MST3K won't come back. Everything's in storage, the sets have been taken down.... Not to mention Mike's got a full-time job at at Legend Films, with Rifftrax on the side - he doesn't even live in Minnesota anymore. I'm fine with it - the show's still enjoyable even today. Heck, I'm amused by every short still, and I have them all collected on one DVD that I watch almost every night (granted, I mostly just flip on the DVD to help me fall asleep, but still - what I do watch before the sandman arrives I still find funny)...

Lemme put it this way:

IT'S. NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

And frankly, I'm glad. We wouldn't have had as much of the glory of Invader ZIM had Mr. Conniff not left MST3K (if you didn't know he was a writer on ZIM, shame on you...) And we wouldn't have had Mr. Murphy's extremely entertaining books about movies without MST3K's end.

All good things must come to an end. MST3K did.

And I'm fine with it.

We may not have new MST3K but considering that every main cast member is riffing somewhere today I'm pretty dang content.

Actually there probably is a pretty good chance.  Lots of shows return to the air more than a decade after going off.

LordZordec

I'm just saying...theres a fan base.  The original crew is still alive and is still basically doing the same thing they were 11 years ago.  Any Oscar winning actors in the mix who are so rich now, they would snub an offer to do the show again?  Why not do the same work they are doing now, but do it under the flag of what made them famous for it 11+ years ago?

Merge the crew of Cinematic Titanic and RiffTrax together again, and with their combined powers (and the support of a media company willing to take on the project) they will be unstoppable!!!

Star Trek had been off the air for a good while when they did The Motion Picture.  It resurected the franchise into a pop culture explosion.  MST3K could live again.

Did that lead to the show returning? No.

We have Cinematic Titanic, a couple Film Crew DVDs, Rifftrax, and about 200 existing episodes.  Why can't you get over it?

I know they have been working on episode 4 "Werewolf in a Girls' Dormitory" and have a title planned for after that called "Memorial Valley Massacre", but think their music career is taking up more of their time.    Maybe Josh Way would have more insight.

Well, Cinematic Titanic was supposed to be the return of Mystery Science Theater 3000.  But an agreement couldn't be made between the CT guys and Jim Mallon.

So blame Jim Mallon.  If it wasn't for him we would have had , what is it? Nine new episodes of MST3K released so far. (Maybe 8 since you figure they wouldn't have redone Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.)

That's assuming the whole thing didn't implode under the weight of the egos involved.  Maybe it's better that it didn't come to pass and we have Cinematic Titanic as a successful enterprise.

If only there were somebody doing this.  Yknow, some MST3k alumni would be great, don'tchyathink?  Too bad they're doing other things, huh?

Here's a better question:  If it's the same thing but under a different name, then why the demand?  Oh right.  Because of your nostalgia.  Nevermind the dismantling of RiffTrax/Cinematic Titanic.  Sure it'd be cool to combine them... but MST3k ain't comin back.  No wait.  It IS back.  It's called RiffTrax... AND Cinematic Titanic!

This whole post is too full of fail.

Your response seems to be the most objective, so yours is the one I will dignify with a response.  If I ventured to guess that you dont work for RiffTrax, would this be true?  I seemed to have ruffled some feathers with the implication that RiffTrax is equivelent to "I Can"t Believe its Not Butter" - an OK substitute if you can't have the original, but not the original (or else it would have the same name as the original).

I figured there was some holdout somewhere who would let their own selfish interests ruin it for the rest of us, and I figured there was probably some ego and bad blood to go around too.

One day when I am a billionare, I will buy the rights to MST3K and resurrect it myself.  Until then, I will settle for the hydrogenated vegtable oil that is CT, RT, the 15 begrillion wannabes.
