There will probably be a very limited reunion at some point in the future. There is a big fanbase and It would be a good way to promote Rifftrax.
There was at Comic-Con for the 20th Anniversary.  I guess you mean another one tho.

there was a Q and A panel, I assume he means a reunion that actually involves riffing.

in other words MST3K with the plot of the Movie Asylum

Dammit!!!

OK, no point in reinventing the wheel. Try this on for size...

Dr. Clayton Forrester (who was thought to be dead, but is actually not dead) and his mother Pearl Forrester have joined forces and are secrely building a new Satellite of Love, the construction of which is being overseen by TV's Frank.  (Think of the opening scene of Return of the Jedi - Clayton comes to check up on the progress, and Frank and the contractors have basically been doing nothing for two months.  "Look, the lady wants it done by Christmas, and theres just NO WAY we can get it done by then!"  "Well, then perhaps you can tell her when she arrives!!!"  GULP!!!)

Then cut to a scene in Arizona somewhere where Crow and Tom are walking through the desert, looking for Joel, who must be rescued from his thankless job at a sewage treatment plant.

Sometime later, Mike shows up in a dark hoody...

You know, totally rip off ROTJ in a hilarious way,  and the short of the long is the whole crew gets back together, and it has basically the same format and thin fiction it ever did.

The plot has a lot of potential. Basically you'd need to get all the robots together and both Joel and Mike... Could use time travel, alternate universes, or just have them get trapped up there again :)

Would it be a theatrical release or Direct to DVD?

It's nice to dream about MST3k's resurrection, but I tend to agree that I don't foresee this happening when Both RT & CT seem to be well set in their own ventures currently..

But Never Say Never 8)

I think the closest we would come to seeing MST3k back on the air is if Cinematic Titanic is picked up as a series.

Well, as the title of the thread indicates, its just a dream, aka a wish, hope, thing hoped for though not seriously expected...like the Phillies winning the world series.  Oh wait...that happened.  Or a black man being president...wait, that one happened too.  Ive got it!  Sandra Bullock winning an Oscar.  Wait...no!!!

I guess the point I am trying to make is that you should not hope for unlikely things because they never happen, so you should give up and live the rest of your life jaded and cynical, waiting for death, the only sure thing in life.  That way, you never risk looking foolish by hoping for something unlikely.

...which happened to be pretty performance-limiting for the performers.

The magic lightning can rarely be re-bottled.

In my opinion, TV that really really hits home for a group of fans is a precarious balance that can't suffer a lot of drastic change, and what is more drastic than a decade-delayed rebirth?  Even if all the main faces and voices and writers got together again somehow, what about the lighting guys?  The editors?  How important was the old building for setting up chemistry?  Etc.

Like a lot of folks I wished really hard for a Firefly rebirth after the movie, now I realize that it's probably for the best that it didn't happen.  Again, get Fillion and Whedon and the main crew back in the saddle.  Can they rebuild the set the same way?  What about lighting it?  Costuming?  Music?  Was there a special donut vendor that came through on Wednesdays that was the key to the tone of the whole affair?

If it had happened, I probably would have been reaching for the Monkey's Paw for one last wish after a few episodes, and I predict that so would you if MST ever crawled out of the graveyard and knocked on your front door.

Do you remember the MST3K set?  It was about the size of a kiosk in the mall.
QuoteWhat about lighting it?
If they dont bring back overhead incandecent, I will refuse to watch to show!!!

Red jump suits and green lab coats are hard to come by these days too.

If someone still has a DX7 keyboard, we are all set!

If by "donut vendor" you mean marijuana dealer, I think that can still be arranged.  And if you literally mean donuts, if the success of show hinged on something so trivial and accidental, the producers were probably just hacks that got incredibly lucky - like George Lucas with the first Star Wars films.  I dont think thats the case with the original MST3K crew.

Star Trek: The Next Generation.  Battlestar Galactica.  Just to name a couple of examples off the top of my head.  MST3K is a show that underwent many dramatic transformations in itself over 11 years and people still watched it.

You are obsessed with lighting.  The editors for RT and CT are doing a well enough job now.  And the building...I dont think that had anything to do with it, or once again, the remants of the crew wouldnt be united again, doing RT in San Diego or CT shows in random theatres on the road.

Considering how many turkeys Sci Fi has been producing, you'd tink they'd have enough of their own material to be lampooned on a new MST3K reboot.
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Hmm.  Good point.

And Zodec, sorry if I was a little harsh earlier.  It's just that people wishing for TV shows to be uncancelled is a pet peeve of mine, particularly since what happened to Family Guy.

LordZordec

My pet peeve is that every time I like a show, it gets canceled.  I was part of the ill-fated Rice-A-Roni campaign to resurrect Journeyman (2007 on NBC), which I still feel to this day was the best show on TV, but once it became clear I was wasting my time, I moved on.

MST3K is different than a good show cut down in its prime since it lasted for 11 seasons, but it also doesnt fall into the same category as traditional shows with finite plots that eventually run their course - like The Office.  Since Jim and Pam got together, I kind of don't care anymore.  MST3K is more closely akin to a bizarro world Masterpiece Theatre with a dash of Saturday Night Live.  As long as there are movies and material to fuel the machine and people willing to watch, why not have it on?

Question: Are not most of the other riffer sites (albeit sucessful and good quality in their own right) an imitation of MST3K?  And does their material not fill a niche left vacant when MST3K went off the air?  Are not most of those who buy Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic former MST3K fans looking for a fix?  If not, then why advertise on the respective web pages, "From the makers of Mystery Science Theater!!!"  Why is that plug necessary to draw in customers?  It's the only reason I know of and care for the existence of Rifftrax.

The real challenge here is the bridge the marketing gap in peoples minds.  Rather than having RT and CT pose as alternatives to MST3K, it needs to be marketted as an extension of it, and a return in some way could do that.

Ok, I'll consider my point suitably missed. :)
