I was tempted to put in the very polite gophers from the WB shorts, but I'll wait for this answer. I think duos or multiples would only count in the characters were incredibly similar or comprise a single entity (re: Tomax and Xamot, The Squeeky Aliens from Toy Story). Quick question again: do comic characters count? Either from a comic book or straight from a newspaper comic strip?
I'm not in charge but animated isn't the same as drawn, so I'm gonna say no. It's as different as radio and the written word in my mind. Sides, I'd like to do a top 50 comic book characters list someday (or anything comic related). How about flash cartoons like Homestar Runner?
One of those characters is definitely going on mind. BTW, completely off subject: I've been trying to get a Mafia game going. Anyone interested? http://forum.rifftrax.com/index.php/topic,14278.0.html

I have a preliminary list written up. It was sort of difficult getting 25 together, to be honest; I kept thinking, "Well, I -like- this character, but is he really in the top 25 ever?" So I'll sit on my list for a few days.
One suggestion--I'd move the "due date" way up. July 24 is way too long.

Agreed on all counts. Actually, I'm just making a list of contenders for now and will start feng shaying (Yeah, I know that's not how it's spelled but I'm too lazy to look for it) them around and casting some off. I actually think that my estimation that I would have no anime characters may be premature, but I think it will just be one, maybe two.

I myself don't think multiples should count as one, unless maybe the characters have indistinguishable personalities. Like I don't know if Huey, Duey and Luie have any characteristics to distinguish them from eachother. But Chip and Dale are more distinct seperate characters. Just my thoughts. One suggestion--I'd move the "due date" way up. July 24 is way too long.
I also agree with this.

Yeah but they only work when they are together, the duo dynamic is really the character more than the constituent parts. Unlike Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, who were often a duo but had existence outside of the shorts where they were a double act. I think it depends on the duo really.

I think we should all stop beating around the bush and just admit we're all thinking about Tom & Jerry.

I was thinking Sam & Max, but Tom & Jerry are good too.
I will have Wile E. Coyote as a single entry, though. I think he works with or without his Mcguffin, the Roadrunner.
Anyway, about halfway through my list now. As usual, it's a cross between personal favorites and who I think are the best characters overall, so there will probably be a lot on mine that don't make it (Unless I'm not the only one with a love for Flaky the Porcupine).

I thought of the Coyote, but he also goes after Bugs.

Thank you! I've been saying Roadrunner was just a McGuffin for years. Although Wile E. Coyote was a slightly different character when he went up against Bugs. Those were my favorites, when he talked. "Super Genius". Was that the reference for Stanton's 'supa genius' running gag in the Bugs Life special features? I always loved that. Especialy the one where he's sleeping and snoring "super zzz super genius".

Now, would duos count as one person? Like, say, Batman & Robin, or WALLACE and GROMITT? Batman is often seen separate so they are separate. Rocky and Bullwinkle, Wallace and Gromit, Beanie and Cecil, Hank and Dean Venture, all count as one since they are rarely separated or considered separate.
