I'm getting it for the 360.  I would've gotten it for the PC, but my computer can't handle those sorts of games anymore.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Which really sucks because that means you miss out on all the inevitable mods.

Well, the character creator ran fine on my PC, so I might take a chance in a few months and get the game.  That way it won't be such an investment, and it'll give the modders out there some time to create something awesome.

Folks- save your receipts.

I've seen the console versions of Dragon Age listed in a Black Friday ad for $39.99. You may want to keep those receipts for a price match.  Hint, hint.

Woo.  So I played about 5 hours of the game last night (went to bed at 6!) and it's everything I wanted from a Bioware RPG.  It's mythology is decidely Lord of the Rings-ish, but it's brilliantly written and at times very funny.  The in-game banter between some of the characters in particular makes you stop playing just so you can listen to them more clearly.  The game also gives you a Warhound - which I have named Wrex.  Smiley

I may not be very present on the boards for the next week or so because I need to play this game a lot.

I actualy prefer the console version of this over the pc version (That my friend owns). I do enjoy the story but it seems like 70% of the game is story and 30% is actual fighting. Alot of build up to the final confrontation in every mission. And even then there are multiple choices that help some people survive but then some action you did previously could have nulled out any hopes if you did something wrong.

Overall a 9 out of 10 is well deserved for this game. After I beat it, it would probably be a 10 out of 10. But so much damn story and  not enough action!

I was bored yesterday so I decided, what the hell, and bought this game.  Spent quite a few hours playing it and didn't go to bed until 3 am last night.

The fighting is EXACTLY like Knights of the Old Republic so it was easy for me to pick up since I'm familiar with that game.  It even has the exact same problem of when you're near death and you try to run away, the enemy slashs at you and kills you even after you ran like 20 feet away.  I'm disappointed that you don't have more control of the action like pressing a button to attack and block like in Jade Empire.  I would prefer that but like I said, its a lot like KOTOR and KOTOR was awesome.

If you want to play this game for the first time and not set it to wimpy easy mode then don't choose the Rogue.  The first time I played I decided to start with Hard difficulty and I immediately had to switch to Normal because I kept dying.  It was taking me 15-20 minutes to kill a group of 3 enemies and I had to be real smart and careful.  I finally got frustrated and moved it down to Easy and I was still dying a fair amount.  So I restarted the game at Normal difficulty with a Warrior and it made a HUGE difference.  I made it back to the spot I was last game (which wasn't very far) in about one third the time and I only died ONCE.  Now the game is too easy and I might need to restart on hard now.  I don't know why the Rogue is such a wimp and can't kill anything and why your party members seem to be wimps too when you choose Rogue.  Another reason not to choose Rogue is, at least early on, money and items are REALLY easy to come by so having those extra lockpicking and stealing skills don't seem to matter much.  I was having a blast going around pickpocketing everyone my first playthrough but there really wasn't much to buy from all the money and selling items I stole because my character was too weak to wear good armor but even if he wasn't, the heavier armor drains the stamina bar very quickly so its better just to be fast and wear light leather armor.  Plus, the game I bought came with the Dragon armor so if you keep putting your points in strength and make it to 38 so you can wear it, that armor has really high stats and you may not need anything else till the very end of the game.  Or you can sell it for a hell of a lot of money.  So don't worry about money and items.

Mr basehart I also thought about naming the dog Wrex but I decided to go with "Shithead" (The Jerk reference) my first try but was a little more serious the second time and chose "Rufus".  Now I'm regretting not naming him something like "Shoeshine" (the dog in the Underdog movie) or the like.  I haven't seen any possible funny dialogue options yet like if you were to name your dog "The Whore" and the game tells you something like "The Whore barks excitedly" or anything like that so the name doesn't seem to matter.

I'm only barely to the part where you first see the map screen and get a mage in your party but so far I give this game an 8.5 out of 10 .  The graphics are beautiful and it really does have a very detailed story although I was too busy hitting ESC so I can't say much about what its about.  I don't care much about fantasy story but I can definitely understand how people who like that sort of thing would find it incredibly awesome.  I expect regular gamers who enjoy rpg games set in medieval times to see this game as a 10 out of 10.  My only real disappointment like I said was not being more involved in melee combat but other then that one thing the rest of my score is based on personal preference of the genre.  This game has me even more convinced that Mass Effect 2 is going to be insanely good.

Here's my character's profile if anybody cares: http://social.bioware.com/playerprofile.php?char_id=165065&display=character&nid=2289773619&game=dragonage  .  I am kinda curious what characters other people chose and what kind of success they're having.  This guy on Normal difficulty has been pretty easy so far.  I even got the achievement "Bloodline" by not dying throughout the whole first segment.  I was still healing and playing smart so its not like I just charged in blindly with sword blazing.

Just some additional thoughts:

If you've ever played a Bioware game, Dragon Age will feel pretty familiar - it has the same kind of gameplay process as practically all of their games (open worldy bit with side-missions and then main quests with dungeon crawling) and the abundance of cool characters that are great to interact with.  There are a couple of things against it though: Unlike Moleman, I don't think the graphics are particularly great - I'd even go so far as to say that it's not even as graphically polished as something like KotoR, which is just weird.  The environments aren't bad, but the people are particularly ugly to look at.  The second major fault is that after Mass Effect, the silent hero character you play feels empty.  Shepard is a great character because you see just as much of him as you do the other characters in the game, while in Dragon Age, there really doesn't seem to be too much personality for your guy.

I don't know what the hell you're talking about with graphics.   Maybe the console version is a lot worse looking then the PC, I don't know.  I definitely agree though that the combat and most of the game is very easy to pick up if you've ever played anything like this before, especially KOTOR.

I'm right at the final battle right now and the world of the game really wasn't as huge as I thought.  Its just that there are a GAZILLION side quests to do and you're constantly running back and forth all over hell doing all these little tasks.  The dungeons are massive but there are really only 4 main dungeons and they're really only so huge because there are chests and secrets hidden everywhere so you're constantly scrolling over everything and moving slowly to make sure you don't miss anything.  Another thing is when you kill enemies it takes what seems like a ridiculously long time for loot to show up.  I'm standing there waiting to click on the dead enemies after every battle and STILL if I backtrack the way I came after I beat the dungeon I'm running into all kinds of dead enemies I apparently missed.  So if you're trying to  get and do everything in a dungeon, the thing takes you 4 to 5 hours to complete and that's on Easy difficulty.  I can't imagine how long it would be if you're constantly dying every single encounter and have to reload the game again and again.  This game is pretty damn hard and even Easy difficulty had me dying a heck of a lot.

This whole game though, if you were to ignore every side quest and not try to open any treasure or collect any loot......I would say you can beat in about 5 or 6 hours.  That is of course if its not too hard and knew where you were going.  I don't know if enemies adjust to your level or not so if you're only like level 10 and your in the final battle it might be impossible.  I feel like the game gets a little easier as you level up but that might only be because you have more special moves to pull off and after playing a while you come up with a balanced team and learn how to combine special moves.

I still highly recommend this game.

Is anyone who's playing the PC version having trouble with their online profile getting updated?  Mine basically hasn't updated since my last post here.

It says I have one guy on level 22 which was my first character but he hasn't beat the game yet and a level 3 mage.  Its not a big deal since no one else sees it anyway.

Right now I have 5 characters, 2 of which have beaten the game and 2 that are most of the way through.  I've beaten it with a human rogue and a human warrior and now I'm about ready to beat the game with a Dalish Elf.  The other one I'm almost done with is a human mage and the 5th one is a female city elf.

I did try all the different origin quests out and my favorite two are a female city elf and a male dwarven noble.  Both of those are epic.

This game has probably been the longest consistent time I've spent on a game since I was a little kid playing Super Nintendo.  Not because its the best game ever though, because of how much stuff there is to do and how much stuff I've STILL not seen.  I still prefer Mass Effect though and can't wait for Mass Effect 2.

Well I was going to wait for Christmas, but when I saw it for $40 at Target last week, I had to pounce. Thought I'd try it out for a few minutes just to get a feel for it. 2 hours later, it's time to go to work. Bioware's done it again...
