Title: How about some of the best movie quotes?
Post by: kodiakthejuggler on November 17, 2006, 10:18:50 AM
With all the negativity happening in the "worst movie line" thread, I thought I'd start an opposite thread.

Chime in here with some of your favorite movie quotes!

First one I can think of:

"Let me tell you somethin', sonny boy! Nothin' moves off these docks without it don't get loaded by da union!"

Oh, 80's action Arnie had a bunch of great lines:

"Stick around!" As he throws a machete into a guerilla fighter in Predator.
"Let's go shopping." As he outfits himself to take on an entire army in Commando.
"Come on Bennett, you don't need a gun...You want to use a knife.  Stick it in me...feels things move around in there." Totally NOT gay seduction of Bennett in Commando.

And of course:

"I'll be back."  ;D

I nominate every line of dialogue from Ghostbusters.  But to give some specific examples:

"Of course you forget, Peter, I was present at an undersea, unexplained mass sponge migration!"
"Oh, Ray.  The sponges migrated about a foot and a half."

"Hey, Egon.  You know what this reminds me of?  This reminds of the time you tried to drill a hole in your head.  Remember that?"
"That would have worked if you hadn't stopped me."

"Are you, Alice, menstrating right now?"
"What has that got to do with it?"
"Back off, man.  I'm a scientist."

"Why worry?  Each of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accellerator on his back."

"We came, we saw, we kicked its @ss!"

"Tell him about the twinkie."
"What about the twinkie?"

"He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms!  During the rectification of the Vuldranai, the Travellor appeared as a large moving Torb!  Then in the last days of the Makektric supplecants, they chose a new form for him.  That of a giant Sloar!  Many shrubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day I can tell you!"

"Everything was fine with our system until it was shut off by dickless here."
"They caused an explosion!"
"Is this true?"
"Yes it's true.  This man has no dick... Well that's what I heard!"

"Gozer the Gozarian... good evening.  As a duly designated representative of the city, county, and state of New York, I hereby order you to return forthwith to your place of origin, or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension!"

"Ray, when someone asks you if you are a god, you say YES!!!"

Good quotes? I got a million of 'em. Some movies are chock-full of 'em. :^)

GHOSTBUSTERS:
"Back off, man! I'm a scientist!"

"I've been slimed!"

"You know, you don't act much like a scientist."
"They're usually pretty stiff."
"You're more like a gameshow host."

"That's a big Twinkie."

TRANSFORMERS: THE MOVIE

"Bah weep Grah nah, weep ninny-bong."

"Those Insecticons are in our way!"
"Wrong! They're our way in!"

"Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy!"

"'Till all are one!"

"Destroy Unicron! Kill the grand poobah! Eliminate even the toughest stain!"

ARMY OF DARKNESS:

"It's a trick! Get an axe!"

"Hail to the king, baby!"

"Good, bad... I'm the guy with the gun."

(I'll admit to having to cut/paste this one. I'm not THAT obsessed yet. :^))
"Now listen up, you primitive screwheads. See this? This... is my boomstick! The 12-gauge double-barreled Remington. S-Mart's top of the line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right, this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel, and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You *got* that?"

Star Wars:

"Use the Force, Luke!"

"May the Force be with you!"

"I'll bet you have!"

Too many to mention. :^)

(Please note: I wrote this up before the Ghostbusters post, and only had to remove the God quote. Too many awesome lines. :^))

First lines that popped into my head upon reading the title of this post:

  Aliens:

"Get away from her you -BITCH-!"

"Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?"
  "No. Have you?"

   T2

"Anyone not wearing 2 million sunblock is gonna have a -really bad day-, get it?!"

How about all the lyrics from "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" from South Park the movie?

Especially:  "Cause Brian Boitano doesn't take sh*t from anybody!"

Jules: What does Marcellus Wallace look like?
Brett: What?
Jules: What country you from?
Brett: What?
Jules: What ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in What?
Brett: What?
Jules: ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER! DO-YOU-SPEAK-IT?
Brett: Yes!
Jules: Then you know what I'm saying!
Brett: Yes!
Jules: Describe what Marcellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What, I-?
Jules: [pointing his gun] Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker. Say what one more goddamn time.
Brett: He's b-b-black...
Jules: Go on.
Brett: He's bald...
Jules: Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: What?
[Jules shoots Brett in shoulder]
Jules: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A BITCH?
Brett: No!
Jules: Then why you try to fuck him like a bitch, Brett?
Brett: I didn't.
Jules: Yes you did. Yes you did, Brett. You tried to fuck him. And Marcellus Wallace don't like to be fucked by anybody, except Mrs. Wallace.

Honorable Mention that I know nobody else will honor or mention:

"Thank you, Officer Fuckmeat."
- Betty White, Lake Placid

[Hector Cyr is preparing to SCUBA dive to look for the crocodile]
Sheriff Hank Keough: I brought a pork chop for luck. Maybe you could hang it around your neck.
Hector Cyr: That's sweet. Maybe later you can chew the bark off my big fat log.

[Sheriff Keough finds two of his deputies digging a deep hole and gives them an icy stare]
1st Deputy: He paid us. Five hundred.
2nd Deputy: It's a trap.
Sheriff Hank Keough: You accepted money from him?
1st Deputy: We took a check.

Mrs. Bickerman: I'm rooting for the crocodile. I hope he swallows your friends whole.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Upon finding a decaying toe]
Hector: Is this the man that was killed?
Sheriff Hank Keough: He seemed... taller.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sheriff Hank Keough: Ma'am, your husband Bernie, you didn't by any chance lead him to the lake blindfolded?
Mrs. Bickerman: If I had a dick, this is where I'd tell you to suck it!

...along with just about every other line in Lake Placid.  That movie is a true piece of genius in that it knows how stupid it is.  Which is really, really stupid.

From Almost Famous:

Lester Bangs: So, you're the one who's been sending me those articles from your school newspaper.
William Miller: I've been doing some stuff for a local underground paper, too.
Lester Bangs: What, are you like the star of your school?
William Miller: They hate me.
Lester Bangs: You'll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.

Lester Bangs: Aw, man. You made friends with them. See, friendship is the booze they feed you. They want you to get drunk on feeling like you belong.
William Miller: Well, it was fun.
Lester Bangs: They make you feel cool. And hey. I met you. You are not cool.
William Miller: I know. Even when I thought I was, I knew I wasn't.
Lester Bangs: That's because we're uncool. And while women will always be a problem for us, most of the great art in the world is about that very same problem. Good-looking people don't have any spine. Their art never lasts. They get the girls, but we're smarter.
William Miller: I can really see that now.
Lester Bangs: Yeah, great art is about conflict and pain and guilt and longing and love disguised as sex, and sex disguised as love... and let's face it, you got a big head start.
William Miller: I'm glad you were home.
Lester Bangs: I'm always home. I'm uncool.
William Miller: Me too!
Lester Bangs: The only true currency in this bankrupt world if what we share with someone else when we're uncool.

I wonder if the real Lester Bangs ever said any of this.

^^^ I forgot how good that movie was and how good that actor was in that movie

One of my favorites:

Marge Gunderson: So that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money. There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don't you know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well, I just don't understand it.

Some of my favs:

"You're gunna need a bigger boat!" (from "Jaws" of course)

"Don't call me junior!" ("Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade")

"Wax on, wax off" ("Karate Kid")

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around every once in awhile you could miss it." ("Ferris Bueller")

"Is this toothbrush approved by the American Dental Association?" ("Home Alone"?my ultimate guilty pleasure!)

And as much as the people on these forums like to poop on "Star Wars" movies, they remain the kings of great quotes:

"May the force be with you"

"This is where the fun begins!"

"I have a bad feeling about this"

"Would it help if I got out and pushed?"

"What is thy bidding my master?"

"Twice the pride, double the fall"

"I am a Jedi. Like my father before me"

"Why do I get the feeling we've picked up another pathetic lifeform?"

and of finally, the grandaddy of them all:

"I am your father"

Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey:

"Station!"

"They melvined me."

"Dude! They think we're philosophers!"
"Well then philosophize!"
"Every rose has its thorn."
"Just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song..."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2:

"Which one's the ugly one?"

Why am I posting this here?

Because sometimes a quote is great not because of the quote itself, but how it's said. And this is one of those quotes.

So, you can either:

A) Click on the link and watch the whole video or...

B) Click on the link, wait for the video to load fully and then drag the marker to around 03:39 on the timeline or as close as you can get it to 03:39 and then watch from there to 04:22.

from one of the greatest comedies of all time, Kung Pow:Enter the Fist

Master Betty: "I have been called bad before. Many have said I do things that are not correct to do. I don't believe in talk such as this. I am nice man, with happy feelings. All of the time. First, a joke: What do you get when you cross an owl with a bungee chord? [pause] My ass. Nyah, haha, haha, haha,  ENOUGH."

Master Betty: "Shirt ripper!"

Wimp Lo: "Take a close look. 'Cause I rule, baby."
Chosen One: "And who do you rule, the large-dark-nipple people?"

Chosen One: "Killing is wrong. And bad. There should be a new, stronger word for killing. Like badwrong, or badong. Yes, killing is badong. From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing: gnodab."

Wimp Lo: "If you've got an ass, I'll kick it!"

Chosen One: "I'll take a pound of nuts."
Shop Keep: "That's a lot of nuts! That'll be four bucks, baby! You want fries with that?!"

Master Tang: [narrating] At that moment, the Chosen One learned a valuable lesson about iron claws... THEY HURT LIKE CRAP MAN.

If we're going to have Star Wars quotes, how about the king of all Star Wars quotes:

"Everything's fine... we're all fine here, now, thank you.  How are you?"

That Harrison Ford.  He was such a great actor back in the days when he used to care.

Walter Sobchak: You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me.
The Dude: Yeah, but Walter...
Walter Sobchak: Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon... with nail polish.

The Dude: Walter, ya know, it's Smokey, so his toe slipped over the line a little, big deal. It's just a game, man.
Walter Sobchak: Dude, this is a league game, this determines who enters the next round robin. Am I wrong? Am I wrong?
Smokey: Yeah, but I wasn't over. Gimme the marker Dude, I'm marking it 8.
Walter Sobchak: [pulls out a gun] Smokey, my friend, you are entering a world of pain.
The Dude: Walter...
Walter Sobchak: You mark that frame an 8, and you're entering a world of pain.
Smokey: I'm not...
Walter Sobchak: A world of pain.
Smokey: Dude, he's your partner...
Walter Sobchak: [shouting] Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a shit about the rules? Mark it zero!
The Dude: They're calling the cops, put the piece away.
Walter Sobchak: Mark it zero!
[points gun in Smokey's face]
The Dude: Walter...
Walter Sobchak: [shouting] You think I'm fucking around here? Mark it zero!
Smokey: All right, it's fucking zero. Are you happy, you crazy fuck?
Walter Sobchak: ...It's a league game, Smokey.

This movie is up there with Ghostbusters for the most quotable.  Really, I could just post the entire script.....

Every line in American Psycho is a classic. The final monologue is just chilling.

Patrick Bateman:

There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape, but even after admitting this there is no catharsis, my punishment continues to elude me and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself; no new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing.

Han Solo: Uh, uh, negative. We had a reactor leak here now. Give us a minute to lock it down. Large leak, very dangerous.
Voice: Who is this? What's your operating number?
Han Solo: Uh...
[shoots comm]
Han Solo: [mutters] Boring conversation anyway.

Hahaha I love Star Wars.

I know Star Trek: Generations isn't everyone's favorite Star Trek movie, but it's got some of my favorite Star Trek moments and quotes.  I like Picard's quote at the end, especially:

"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again."

Yes, oh confused ones, there are more than one thread regarding quotes, however this one that I created back in November of last year was specifically for the best movie quotes, not just any old quote that strikes your fancy. Sure, you can quote a movie in ol' Thom's "Quote Something!" thread, but here is more towards best movie quotes, to counter the "worst movie quotes" started oh so long ago.

The Duke will die before these eyes, and he'll know, HE'LL KNOW; that it is I, Baron Vladamir Harkkonen who encompasses his doom!

My most humble apologies, sir.

Thom had me convinced that quoting things was his favorite pastime.   ;)

Man With No Name: You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

Tuco: When you have to shoot, shoot, don't talk.

Andy Dufresne: Get busy living, or get busy dying.

Kambei Shimada: Danger always strikes when everything seems fine.

Major T. J. "King" Kong: Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

Leland: That's all he ever wanted out of life... was love. That's the tragedy of Charles Foster Kane. You see, he just didn't have any to give.

Kurtz: I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving.

Travis Bickle: Listen, you f*ckers, you screwheads. Here is a man who would not take it anymore. A man who stood up against the scum, the c*nts, the dogs, the filth, the sh*t. Here is a man who stood up.

Travis Bickle: Loneliness has followed me my whole life, everywhere. In bars, in cars, sidewalks, stores, everywhere. There's no escape. I'm God's lonely man.

Jefferson Smith: [His voice very hoarse] Just get up off the ground, that's all I ask. Get up there with that lady that's up on top of this Capitol dome, that lady that stands for liberty. Take a look at this country through her eyes if you really want to see something. And you won't just see scenery; you'll see the whole parade of what Man's carved out for himself, after centuries of fighting. Fighting for something better than just jungle law, fighting so's he can stand on his own two feet, free and decent, like he was created, no matter what his race, color, or creed. That's what you'd see. There's no place out there for graft, or greed, or lies, or compromise with human liberties. And, uh, if that's what the grownups have done with this world that was given to them, then we'd better get those boys' camps started fast and see what the kids can do. And it's not too late, because this country is bigger than the Taylors, or you, or me, or anything else. Great principles don't get lost once they come to light. They're right here; you just have to see them again!

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

McMurphy: I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

Atticus Finch: Now gentlemen, in this country our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal. I'm no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and of our jury system. That's no ideal to me. That is a living, working reality. Now I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence that you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this man to his family. In the name of God, do your duty. In the name of God, believe Tom Robinson.

Alex: It's funny how the colors of the real world only seem really real when you viddy them on the screen.

Norman Bates: Uh-uh, Mother-m-mother, uh, what is the phrase? She isn't quite herself today.

Dorothy: There's no place like home!   There's no place like home!  There's no place like home!

Some quotes I'm partial to:

"Mos Eisley Spaceport. Never will you find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

"This is where Forrestal cashed in. He was good. He was very, very good."

"Livingston don't have what you'd call a doing time type of disposition."

'...the central tenet of Buddhism is not 'every man for himself' ."

"Well hello Mr. Fancy-pants! Right now you're not leading but jack and shit. And jack left town."

"You know the definition of a hero? Someone who gets other people killed."

"He's an absentee landlord!"

"I stick my neck out for nobody."

Just a few that come to mind.
