Yes, that's right, the time to try and guess the next movie is almost at hand.
Game will start approx. 1pm Pacific Standard Time, or 4pm Eastern.
What's the rule this time? Stay tuned!HERE ARE THE RULES!
Every question
must contain reference to a potential crossover movie, starring a character from Harry Potter, and an actor or character
from a previously-riffed movie. This should mean that your question is in some way related to the previously-riffed movie you are referencing.
For example (movie poster included for comical effect and visual aide):
Coming this spring, what happens when a young boy wizard learns that his father is a truck-driving, hat-wearing, musclebound arm wrestler? He begs him for affection, of course! In early 2008, Harry Potter. Sylvester Stallone. Over the Top 2: Mind Over Muggle.
Was the movie made in the 80s?
This is an example of an acceptable question. Of course, your "movie synopsis / description" doesn't have to be very elaborate - just reference a character from the Potter books, and an actor or character from one of our previously riffed movies, before stating your question (which MUST be related somehow to the already-riffed movie).
The first question after 1:00 pm will be the first one answered. After that, we will decide from each "batch" of questions (between answers) we feel is the funniest or most clever mashup. That question will be the next one to get answered.
The MVP of this game, as well as the person who asks the winning question, will receive a gift certificate for a free track.
Most importantly of all - be creative and have fun.
WOO HOO!!!

Indeed! Let us all join in for a resounding HAZAA!!
Giggity
Hurrah!
So what will the rules be? I suggest, that in deference to the recent release of the final Harry Potter book, all questions have to use a element of Harry Potter lore in them?
Whew...a whole month went by without a 20 Q's. I almost didn't make it.
Now remember, Rifftrax forum is on Bar Time.....lots of drinkers among the mods I guess....so watch the forum clock.
Huzzah!
So this is considered the "Second Season" huh? Will this Season have the same amount of tracks, or will there be a little more/less?
ALERT!
THE NETFLIX WEBSITE IS DOWN!!
But it should be back up in time for the game, or when the game is over (so says the Netflix page).
*Begins to shudder uncontrolably for fear of missing his queue window*
Who knows when it's coming back up. I remember trying last night and they say it was expected to come back up at 10:00PM Pacific. I tried early this morning at it said they expected to be back up at 9:00AM Pacific. Now it says 11:00AM Pacific.
AWW SH*T!!!
MAN, I Hate to Even bring this up, but... Can we maybe delay the game due to uncontrolable circumstances?? :speechless:
Why would we delay because Netflix is down?
Because we cant get the next Rifftrax movie in 1st position of the Queue!
That's pretty stupid. It's not gonna be down all day.

BELAY MY LAST!
Just called the 888 # and Netfix Assured me it will be back up in a couple of hours!
Carry On with the game As Planned!!
MY BAD - Just Panicing a little :speechless: :speechless: :speechless:
P.S. Due to this, if you've missed the window to change your Queue because of this down time, call them up and tell them that, and you want a Free DVD sent ASAP!

And another thing. For all your Potter needs: http://www.mugglenet.com/
If it's any consolation to anyone who may be groaning loudly out there, I don't know anything about Harry Potter. Never read one book, or watched one movie. (I know, I'm probably the only one in the country - who cares).
Anything you say about Potter could be completely made up... and you won't be penalized for it,

WOOOHOOO!!!! I helped make the rules!!
Aargh! All right, that does it. I hereby propose a rule for the contest after this one:
"All questions must be as simple, straightforward, and uncomplicated as possible. Any question that shows signs of having taken longer than 15 seconds to compose will be automatically disqualified."
:P
We've done games like that several times. They are less fun :P
Man! I think we've finally reached the point where the questions will now be more complicated than Mike's riffs of the movie. This is the prog-rock of 20 questions. When will the punk-era begin?? ;D
Oh come now. It's not THAT complicated... sure, you have to think about it a bit... but that's what makes it fun!
... Right??
Yeah, less fun for you! ;D (That was in response to torgos; I tried to post at the same time as mrbasehart.) I'm not trying to be a crybaby, honest, but for those of us who aren't geniuses, don't type at 3,000,000 words per second, can't refresh the forum at the speed of lightning before six new replies are added, and are trying to work while doing this, the easier games are the only way we can participate.
I'm not trying to take away your fun. It's a great forum and you all do a great job. I'll just sit out this one and wait for the final answer, again. Maybe in the future a way will be discovered to make some of these games fun AND a little easier.
You know why Rifftrax has been away don't you? One of the Mod's wished that there would be no Mike. Then Mikey (The Mike Sprite) came and took him away for a month. Finally somebody caved in to Mikey and wished him back.
Mike's socks, however, have yet to be found.
Well -- really, it's cuz Mike was stolen by a Goblin, but when we really needed him, he came back via the Sorting Hat....

I tend to agree.
I have Plenty of time to 'attempt' to play, but Maybe on a Sunday, when there would be, say, more time to take on the more challenging games.

It can go Both ways in my book!!
What if, instead of answering whichever question was first, they answered whichever one they deemed the funniest, or most creative? It would take the speed element out of it, and focus more on silly Quidditch/Roadhouse crossovers.
I Like That Idea!!
How about they give me the funny or I break their arms! (kidding)

I understand where you're coming from. We'll be switching things up again soon, for the next game most likely. It won't even be 20Q's. It's hard to achieve a level playing field most times - everyone is going to be better at something than others.
But I don't think your complaints merit "sitting this one out." Half the fun is reading other people's questions - you can do that whether or not your question is the one answered, right?
I can't even imagine what the game would be like in the chat room...

Ya know, I actually like that idea. Consider that part of the rules... (just noticing now, also, that I didn't specify anything of that nature this time).
We'll answer whichever one we think is funniest, but it must be part of the "questions asked since the previous answer." In other words, after we answer question #3, we won't be going back and reading the submitted questions from that "group" again. Make sense?
Things take a turn for the GOOFY when Harry Poter meets Ator. the Invincible! Harry Potter needs a hang glider in a big way- if only he had some simple way of working the wood! Ator thinks he's got a rudimentary idea!
Harry Potter and Ator the Invincible are:
Lathe Dwellers!

This is what I usually do. and *it is* fun.
Yeah I like to throw out a lathe reference as a kind of pre-game show.
And now here come the Pengueteers to cheer on the team! :^)
I can't wait to see if anyone does a good Voldemort/Dr. Soran question...
It's true, I usually just spectate these events nowadays. It can be tough to get involved in a very clever game while at work.
Perhaps once a month we should have "Throwback 20Q Day" where it's just the plain old, guess the movie stuff for us old-timers (you know, verterans without necessarily high post counts, lol) who have to balance pretending to work with guessing the film ;)

Using the RiffTrax catalog and my own Potter knowledge, Ive got 10 blurbs ready. All I'll need is questions, when the game has begun.
That's what I like to hear :)
This is going to be Potterrific!
*Slams head into desk repeatedly*
(That was my Dobby impression)
I've got two blurbs already, but I also have a question.
Are the movies that Mike Nelson has provided commentary for from Legend Films also up for grabs in this game? For example, if I were to parody House on Haunted Hill by centering it on the Shrieking Shack, would I be well in my rights, or would I be better off just sticking with the Rifftrax catalogue?
Harry Potter and Reefer Madness....now that has potential.
Yeah Really!
He wouldn't need that Damn broom stick to Fly anymore!
Ugh, I'm suffering a bit of a writer's block at the moment. This is what happens when I stay up all night. Hopefully I can shoo it away before the game ends, and get a question in (not that there's probably a shortage of pre-written questions though).
Oh, by the way, is someone going to make a running tally?

I don't see any reason why not.
A) I volunteer to do the running tally.
B) Might I suggest in passing that players not include any spoilers for Book Seven in their questions? It's not something I'm personally worried about, but it could be painful for others. Thanks.

Keep in mind, you can't exclude genres in an imdb search, so some of them might be sci-fi. You'll have to do some manual editing yourself.
DAMN IT. Somebody already snuck this one in. All right, don't answer this, but since I went to the trouble of typing it all out, I feel compelled to post it.
The saga continues, as Harry Potter, now in his 80s, battles the obnoxious demon JarJarMort. Meanwhile, Kirk and Bones, from the orbital wizarding school Enterprisia, compete with Hogwarts to be the first to find an antidote to the dreaded Colostomy Curse. Hermione discovers that menopause has obliterated her sexual attraction toward Frodo, who was really not that interested to begin with. And Ron breaks a hip, in what critics are calling "the best film in the series since the one where Malfoy got dentures, whichever one that was"...

See kids getting their kicks by diving underwater... and not coming up for air in well over an hour!
See nerve-wracking drug deals... done under the very noses of the people in our society!
See the innocence of childhood destroyed before your very eyes... all because of a simple plant.
See people dancing sporatically... while stoned out of their gorram minds!
Do not let this warning slip by! You MUST see Gillyweed Madness! ... Or else, you're a bad parent.

Harry Potter get's stuck into a time portal and is warped to Old Time England (1970-60's obviously). He lands in front of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory! He warps himself in front of the gate until cops come and tries to seize him. He turns the cops into chickens and rushes into the nearby factory. Willy Wonka is there and says he has been waiting for him. A heard of pigs from a neighboring farm have escaped and are eating all the chocolate. It's up to Harry and Willy to stop the pigs from eating all the chocolate! Can they stop them in time? This is: Harry Potter and The Pot-bellied Burglars!

One Wand to bring them all and in the classroom BIND them...

I doubt that. To many chances for the RT to be horribly out of sync. Legend probably knows some people at WB that hooked them up with a screener or the DVD. In fact just today I had a guy sell a copy to my store. So there are early releases out there.
Hence the smiley face...I was kidding! :)

I even felt cheated during the few nude scenes... even THOSE weren't done well enough to make me care. I have honestly been waiting for this Rifftrax (Rifftrak?!) since about 5 minutes into the movie.
...
So... someone explain to me again who was in 300 from a previous Rifftrax?

PS JP- Freakin' AWESOME poster man! You have totally outdone yourself this time!
Looking forward to this one. Can someone clarify how the actor from a previous rifftrax question was answered no though? The first billed star of this one was in a rifftrax. He was in Reign of Fire.

That's why the game "broke." I had completely missed Butler being in Reign of Fire, until someone else mentioned it, and so we decided to concede and announce it. Stupid overlooking things.
Sorry about that.
Now I'm raging against the "torgosPizza machine".

I owe Butler an old grudge for getting cast in the
Phantom movie. (I still have my old "Michael Crawford for Phantom" T-shirt around here, I think.) He's officially invisible to me too! :)
By the way, as Dave Barry would say, Poorly Concealed Homoerotic Eye Candy would be an excellent name for a rock band.
Yeah, the audiences I saw it with (twice) really enjoyed it. Just wish our local Imax had shown it. Darn family values!
My theory is that Star Wars episodes 1 and 2 aren't movies. They are screenplays that were mistakenly made into movies because the real movie that Lucas wanted to make was Episode 3. Episode 3 could have been cut in half. The last half with the battle between Obi Wan and Annakin should have been created as an addition to Star Wars: A New Hope when Lucas did the touch-ups of the 3 original movies.

As far as "Past the Point of No Return" is concerned -- Butler is WAY better than Crawford. I think the other songs could go either way, though the Phantom parts for All I Ask of You belong solely and compeltely to Crawford....
Also - Rossum is a fantastic Christine.... better than Brightman should Brightman perform it in her current state.
Crawford -- you can tell he's got way more theater training than Butler whereas...
Butler is a commanding cinema presence as Phantom....
My biggest grudge for the movie is that it changes the original lyrics to many of the songs =(
Still love the movie though!
Of course, there's always Will Ferrel

I gotta say, I really did like him. I watched a handful of interviews with him, and I was
really pissed that Emmy Rossum kept intentionally stealing his thunder. He really deserved more love for that role. His acting is really natural, and I think it would be easy to ham the Phantom up.
Rossum stole his thunder in interviews you say? That makes me sad =(
Which interviews?
Lol - here's the Banderas-afied "Badass" version of Phantom! XD

Sorry J, I know you like her, but in the magazine interviews she gave and I saw some YouTube clips of the cast on The View - she is just very spoiled. I get the feeling that in person she is always "on" - you know, the kind of girl that wants to make sure everyone is getting her best 'side'.
On the View, while Butler was talking, one of the women stuck her hand in his face pointing to Rossum to sing! That called for a Stephanie Tanner "How rude!"

...what sort of delivery time scale are you looking at? I looked at Amazon's priority courier (2 to 4 days) and that's 50 bucks - 25 quid! Expedited (6 to 22 business days) is about 32 dollars. That's actually cheaper than getting the UK version from Amazon.co.uk and you get it a month sooner, too, and the Rifftrax would be ready and compatible.... .Hmm.... On reflection, I think I'll cancel my .co.uk order and order the USA one!
I ordered mine from ebay. I don't expect the DVD to arrive inside a week, but at least I won't have to wait months, which is probably what would've happened.
300! Then we will riff in the shade! As much as I loved this movie, I think the odd visuals are gonna make good riff-fodder. I think I will use this new idea called 'stores' and 'purchase' this DVD, thus I avoid waiting. :^)

According to Amazon, the one disc (and blu-ray and hd dvd) editions are 116 minutes and the special edition is 117 minutes. Hmm.

The HD-DVD is a dual disc, so it will have the SD version on it too. I doubt there's a difference between any of the versions anyway, I think the 116 vs 117 minutes is probably just an error.

Well, in her current state, Brightman's simply no longer young enough to play an ingenue. (The Phantom, on the other hand, is more of an ageless role, so anyone who trots out the "too old" excuse for Crawford gets a DOUBLE DOSE of holy water!) And it's true that her career path since "Phantom" has been a rather wacky one. I still love her voice, though, and think that it has the unique sound to it that Christine's voice should have.
As for the videos, a poorly done "Music of the Night" music video (I own it, but I freely admit that it looks hastily thrown together and neither performer was at his or her best -- poor Sarah, though I don't think she was actually ever a druggie, looked stoned out of her gourd) is not the way to make your case, my friend!

Excellent info, NickE. Also, I would expect Wal-Mart's price to be somewhere between the CC and BB prices (depends on your location, though).

300! Then we will riff in the shade! As much as I loved this movie, I think the odd visuals are gonna make good riff-fodder. I think I will use this new idea called 'stores' and 'purchase' this DVD, thus I avoid waiting. :^)
I'm with you, I thought it was a fun ride but VERY ripe for riffing. Like David Lynch's Dune-riffable.
Still, watching angry Scottsmen is always a 'gud tiiime'.
Go Target. That's where I'm going. Maybe I could use the movie downloaded 300 for the rifftrax. It's looking good.
Yes 300, the movie about how personal-trained Scotsman mount a valiant CG'd stand against the Goa'uld. I just hope this means more Blast Hardcheese riffs.
They've already said this pre-release has nothing to do with them.

Probably a fan trying to help.
So when are they doing these Rifftrax of Porno's I keep hearing about. Sounds interesting and challenging. Outside the box.

I bet they'd have a hard time concentrating on the riffs....
Bill, put that thing away...concentrate!
Seeing as the next Rifftrax is 300, a porno of the next Rifftrax is a disturbing prospect. :^)
Little late to the party, but I have to express my exctiement.
When my browser loaded the picture of Mike in the Spartan get-up, I lifted my fists in victory.

I'm betting there's not going to be a PAL version of this available for quite some time, right? The UK version of 300 doesn't come out until September 17 (which is just about eight... count 'em, eight... weeks from now), so I can't see BathTub having anything to work with!
(sigh)
Bad start to the new Rifftrax season for us foreigners.
The region 4 release is Aug 8th.
It's a new film, rated R... I just have the feeling that the old coots at the BBFC are going to want to cut it dfferently. It's how they justify their existence, you know.
So we're looking at September 17 release and odd-on that it won't sync with the standard Rifftrax, so a compatible Euro/UK Rifftrax is going to take even more time (that's assuming that Rifftrax Central thinks the possible Euro sales justify the effort - let's face it, most business is in the US of A, and doing a Euro customisation is prolly a good illustration of the 80/20 rule ) :(
On the plus side, someone told me that the new Film Crew DVDs are all-region! That cheers me up.
Well we will see, if Eragon and Casino Royale have taught me anything, it's that any cuts could go either way.
Did anyone mention when the next 20 questions game is gonna be?
Wednesday I think... anyone remember for certain ?
Yes, wednesday is still currently the plan.
YEAH BABY!!!

Hopefully, I'll be just as lucky. All Ive got is five "We expect to ship your next movie today" messages. But 300 is in the #1 slot. So, fingers are crossed.
Not do dash your hopes, but This is the 1st time that an early release I had as my #1 WAS actually sent On Time where almost all my others were put in a 'Long Wait' to 'Very Long Wait', so I do feel pretty lucky this time around.
I'll keep the hopes up that you'll get yours on time too. :)
Just checked Netflix, and it's listed as "Shipping Today". Provided it's coming from the local DC and not an out of town one, that's a good sign for getting it tomorrow.
Yeah.. Same Here.
My direct DC is Greensboro, NC, and They've been pretty accurate.
My 300 is coming tomorrow too, and Hot Fuzz too! Hurrah for Netflix, suck it Blockbuster.

My calendar says Friday. I'll find out if that's accurate.I'm teh dumb, it will be on Wednesday, August 1st. Booya!
I've never had any problems getting new releases from Netflix on their release day. As long as I make sure they get returns on Monday morning by sending them back Friday or Saturday.
I'll have 300 tomorrow (Wednesday at the latest), I would have Hot Fuzz coming too, but I plan on buying that one.
I hate it when they send you movies from an out-of-town DC, but it happens quite a bit. I have a varied collection of out-of-town return envelopes. I never use them to return movies, I just double up into a hometown DC envelope instead.
I once got a movie (I think it was the HD-DVD version of V For Vendetta) from Honolulu, HI! Which wouldn't be so bad except I live in Florida. :o
Due for Tuesday. WHOO!!
Netflix screwed me over.. at least I'm getting Hot Fuzz to tide me over 'til I get 300.
every time I get a scratched or broken DVD, the replacement comes from California or Washington... never fails

Actually it doesn't matter what address is on the Netflix return envelope because the Postal Service has program going with Netflix where all the Netflix envelope are pulled off the sorting belt they go down and are thrown to the side. Then they are all placed in tubs that go to the nearest Netflix facility. I know cuz I used to do that job sometimes. The best way to get your Netflix sent back and processed the fastest is to drip them off at a Postal distribution center or drop them in a Blue USPS collection box before 2 pm or so. The collection box mail gets picked up faster than the mail the carriers pick up, so your envelope will get put in a tray faster and should get opened by Netflix sooner.
Blockbuster envelopes get sent through the cancellation machine and are sometimes damaged or opened by the machine. Or alot of times the sorting machine will read the wrong side of the envelope and it will get sent back to be re-delivered to your house again. Then if your carrier notices it, it will take another day or two to get back to Blockbuster.
I'll be getting 300 & Hot Fuzz, at 6:30 am tomorrow. Thank you redbox. I thought about getting Pathfinder, but I have heard that it is fiercely stupid, and probably future rifftrax material.

In blockbuster's defense though, don't know if that still happens afterwards, but now you bring the envelope into the store and after the clerk checks it in you get sent the next movie in your que as opposed to waiting for it to reach them
Anyone know if the NTSC version will be the same as the PAL version?
It seems like every time a DVD from the new release section gets riffed lately, they are slightly different.
We will know in a week.
Gimme gimme gimme gimme now now now. NOW!!!!
Aww common lets have it...I have to be at work in 3 hours >:(
So, the new 'season' has started with 300. (v. happy btw ;D) Does this mean we can expect another podcast soon? Or do I hafta wait for this season to end before those start back up again?
lol, wasnt gonna buy the Rifftrax until I got the 300 DVD... but now I gotta try to win that autograph

If you buy a copy of 300 by 5pm 7-31 (today) you're entered into a drawing for a signed poster.
Well shoot. That's what I get for being in Vegas instead of buying Rifftrax on their release date, I suppose. :^)
