Title: What short movies seemed long the first time you watched them?
Post by: Doctor Who? on March 18, 2009, 07:22:26 AM
Are there any short movie that seem much longer then long movies like Lord of the Rings the first time you watched them?

For me it mostly happens with bad movie.

Superman 4(only 90 minutes but boy it felt longer then the 2 and a half hour Superman the movie)

The Happening(only 96 minutes long but seemed much longer)

Monster a go go(This one was only just over an hour and yet even riffed it felt long)

Yes, at 96 minutes Romero's Diary of the Dead felt like a coffee enema that wouldn't end.  I pulled an eye muscles just from the amount of times I rolled them in pure disgust.

The Ten Commandments was short?! :o

My family used to watch it on Tv every Easter and it felt like it lasted all night.

When i was a kid I thought it must be two movies edited into one.

I'm pretty sure The Blair Witch Project is at least twelve hours long. And I was even rearranging my room when I was watching it. Imagine if I'd paid attention.

Yes...please someone explain what is so "wonderful" about Dr. Zhivago?  I've tried watching it twice just in case I was in a bad mood the first time....

It's okay but...  ???

I have never seen it but as long as I can remember it has been one of my mom's most hated movies.

Also when i was a kid one of the PBS stations in my area used to play it non stop and it was being called one of the best films ever made.

I guess you can argue that it's kind of like Gone With The Wind in that - instead of going into the nuts and bolts of the politics and stuff of the Civil War - it shows how the War effected regular people.  Zhivago shows how people were effected by the Revolution.  But since these were mostly the people who were getting fat under the Czar....are we supposed to feel sorry for them?

So you're saying tragedy isn't tragic if you have money?

People watch it thinking the title is Dr. Chicago, before realizing the movie they were actually thinking of is Dr. Detroit.

I have to agree. I love David Lean but I hate Zhivago. Just can't get into the whole "adultery is the only way you can be happy" sappy mellodrama.

When I watched Dead Man's Chest in theaters it just seemed to go on forever. It's running time wasn't all that much longer than the first one I think, it just felt longer and more tedious for some reason.

You just gave the reason.

I'm saying that payback is a bitch.

Under that logic anyone who has less money then you has the right to kill you and take everything you own.

Ever owned anything or worn anything made in the third world?

Ever worked for a company who makes money off of the third world?

You are exploiting the poor there.

This is why class warfare is a bad idea.

Everyone is richer then someone and everyone exploits someone else.

It's the way an imperfect world works.

No see there is a huge difference between people having differing amounts of money and the serf and aristocrat society that existed in pre-revolutionary Russia.

Had Alexander II's constitution gone into effect there might well have been greater universal equanimity in Russian society, however it didn't and so by the time of Nicholas II there was quite the toxic stew bubbling away leading to rounds of some pretty horrific atrocities, which also included the horrible deaths of four young girls and their invalid brother in a basement in Yekaterinburg (say what you like about their parents but the children, especially the girls made the best of their station, they should have amended the rules to allow Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna to replace her father).

You could choose to live off the land and do honest work.

you didn't you are guilty.

You want to draw a line and say all people on one side are pure good all people on the other side are pure evil and should be killed with out mercy or remorse.

The world doesn't work like that.

Compared to 60% of the world's population you are super rich and yes you have a choice we all have a choice.

I never said was I better then the rest of mankind you are the one passing judgment and saying calling for all rich people to be murdered.

Under your logic anyone in the third world should murder you because you have not taken a stand.

You could choose not to rape the third world but you would rather post on the internet then live the way you judge others for not living.

Clean your own house before judging other people.

No I really don't think she said any of that, her comment was specifically about pre-revolutionary Russia. And I've already spoke about that.

Sorry but the Russian revolution was the mass slaughter of the "evil rich" she said pay back is a bitch.

In other words she is saying that if a poor person kills a rich person you have no right to feel sorry for the rich person.

I am just pointing out that under her logic she is part of today's "evil rich".

The only difforance between us and the rich of Russia is that we keep the people we exploit out of eyesight so we can pretend we are better then the people in the past.

The fact is we are no better.

The world works the way it always has, a few people get rich off of the backs of slaves.

You need to go read some more about Russia. You have no idea how unlike the Russian aristocracy people who happen to live in the first world are.

So again, her comment was specifically about the pre-revolutionary society in Russia not anything to do with modern society.

and this
Quote
The only difforance between us and the rich of Russia is that we keep the people we exploit out of eyesight so we can pretend we are better then the people in the past.

Is complete and utter bollocks.

The revolution was atrocious but it was not simply caused by some sort of resentment of rich vs poor. Go and read up on it's causes (something a couple of hundred years in the making) then come back and make some informed comments.

I never said it was what I am saying is everything we have is built on our oppressing the third world where do you think your nice cheap computer comes from?

Under the logic that what happened in Russia was ok the people of the third world have the right to rise up and kill us the same as the poor did in Russia and no one should feel sorry for us.

The people in the third world are the modern slaves and surfs.

If mercy was limited to those who deserve it none of us would be very well off.

Again, she was talking about pre-revolutionary Russia so you've created an argument for yourself where none existed. You said "well based on your logic, blahg blah blah".

Well no, based on her logic it was still just a comment about pre-revolutionary Russia. Which we've established you know nothing about because if you did you' not be comparing modern society or the socio-political dynamics therein to it.

She was standing in judgment of those people and saying we shouldn't feel sorry for them.

I am just pointing out that we are very much the same.

Man really hasn't changed that much in the past 100 years.

Evidently you don't even know the details of what happened in the revolution.

Pay back was indeed a bitch

Again you have no idea what you are talking about, I'd suggest you cease talking about this subject.

I am just saying we deserve payback too.

You need to read up on where all your nice stuff comes from.

You have no idea how the modern world works.

Computers would be $10,000 a piece if we were not exploiting the third world.

Don't even get me started on cloths or oil.

And you still know nothing about the subject of p[re-revolutionary Russia.
