Don't listen to BTA. He drinks an unusal amount of Rum for a man who lives in Nebraska
He also has an obsession with Cock rings that I find to be at the very least, incredibly disturbing.

No, that part makes him cool

Quiet you!

Okay.... I love nipple clamps, I love it when porn is spliced into children's films, and I especially love it when someone yanks out my piercings and making me bleed to death profusely because it makes me want to say "Thank you sir may I have another?".

Shit!  This is the hardest choice yet...I am quite honestly unable to decide based on quality because both of these movies are so awesome.  Therefore, I'm going to have to choose based on a criterion that is entirely stupid and arbitrary - the distance between the birthplaces of these movies' respective directors and my birthplace (St. Paul, Minnesota).

Let's see...David Fincher was born in Denver, Colorado - that's 703 miles from St. Paul.

The Coen Brothers, on the other hand, were both born in Minneapolis - 19 miles away according to geobyte.com.

Well, that settles it.  Science and logic demand that I vote for The Big Lebowski.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

Big Lebowski is better than Fight Club. Vote Lebowski.  ;D

I like how people explain why something is better than something else.

That's just it! It's so much better I don't even have to explain!

Quality is subjective.  You might find Fight Club to be, in your words: " a pile of steaming dog shit"   However, i rather enjoy the movie, and it seems other people do as well.  Making declarative statements, insisting that your opinion alone is the sole truth of the matter is tiresome and counterproductive.  Give examples of why you think Fight Club is a grouping of canine excrement.  Did the story/plotline offend you in some manner?  Where the actors/actresses in said movie less than stellar?  Did you find the cinematography horrid?  Simply saying(and I'm paraphrasing here) : " Fight Club is da SUXXORZ!!!"  doesn't make for a very strong case.

Very well said.  I'm actually envious of how you put it.  I love both movies to death and this was a hard choice for me as well but I went with The Dude.

Fight Club is still one of my favorite movies and books of all time though, if was up against any other film besides Lebowski then I wouldn't think twice about my vote.
A spell was cast and the sky turned red.  The Angel's heart froze to ice.  Roses of blood from an innocent soul.  On the plain lies an Angel dead.

My problems with Lebowski are that it's pretty bland in a sense. Mediocore? I mean the plot is nothing special. The progression of the movie never changes that much really. Fight Club on the other hand is a pretty epic movie that is solely character driven. Has one of the few amazing performances of Brad Pitt, and helped launched the career of an already rising star in Norton.

Your opinion is fair and I know where you're coming from but "The Big Lebowski" is anything but mediocre.  Most of the laughs that come from it are subtle to begin with, and add in the movies own quirky dialogue and it's easy for some people to "not get it" as a film.  The progression of the film doesn't change that much because it simply doesn't have to and it's just as much about the conversations between the main characters as it is the plot.  Also, the plot is without a doubt better than a lot of  gang/mobster movies that tried to accomplish the same thing with the twists involved.  I'm not bashing you on this at all, but if you can't see the movie for what it is, and for how great it is, then you just haven't seen it enough times to fully appreciate it.

Again, don't get me wrong on this because I totally agree with what you said about Fight Club and it is one of my all time favorite movies as well, but if it's put up against Lebowski, in my book at least, it doesn't stand a chance.
