I read Who Censored Roger Rabbit a few years ago.

The movie bears almost no resemblance to the book except for these three facts.

1:  There is a "toon" rabbit named Roger.
2:  He hires a detective.
3:  He is married to a human-looking toon named Jessica.

That's it, the plot, the motivations of the characters, the way toons are presented (they're mostly described as comic strip characters that even mostly communicate by word balloons coming out of their mouths and floating over their heads), the relationship between Roger and Jessica, who gets murdered, why they get murdered, how toons can appear to take the damage that they can without dying, and even Roger's ability to hold his liquor are completely different from one version to the other.

I don't know here. End of the day these are all opinions, but I can't help feeling some of us have seen more than mainstream movies based on comic books, while others think Heath Ledger is the best joker ever without ever seeing the new Batman.

Well of course these are all opinions, that's what forums are for.  And you need to expect people to compare mainstream movies based on comic books when one of the movies up for discussion is a mainstream movie based on a comic book.

As for Heath Ledger being the best joker, I wouldn't say that without seeing the movie yet, but I'm along with a lot of people who are excited as hell to see it.

Long story short, I can watch Batman Begins many times over, I think it's a great adaptation, it strikes the right balance between realism and comic book fantasy for me.  I can only watch Roger Rabbit every now and then.  While I enjoy it, it's just not the same as it was when I was a kid, and now I know how watered down and altered an adaptation it is.  A movie actually based closely on Who Censored Roger Rabbit would likely keep me much more entertained as an adult.

Batman to me was a poor man's Keaton, and a really safe Batman comic to movie script. That to me means rental at best. As I've said History of violence was better, hell even the Pizzeria Kamikaze movie was better.

Why do you keep saying History of Violence?  There are only two movies to pick from, and that not one of them.
I agree History of Violence is better than Roger Rabit and Batman Begins, but Batman Begins is better than Roger Rabbit.

I think I mentioned it twice. People are treating Begins like the best comic book movie ever, while clearly there are others. Roger Rabbit for when it was made was quite revolutionary. In the same sense that the watchmen was.

But right now in this thread, the choice is between Batman Begins and Roger Rabbit.  I never said Batman Begins is Jesus's favorite movie, just that it's better than Roger Rabbit.

Doctor Who?

Hey this poll ask what movies people liked more we have answered the question.

People who like non mainstream movies more then mainstream ones are not better then other people.

Also the fact that a movie wasn't mainstream doesn't make a movie good.

Being mainstream doesn't make a movie bad.

Isn't there just a chance that you are wrong about Batman Begins being a bad movie?

In the end it all comes down to taste.

I like Citizen Kane a lot more then Fargo but i am not going to keep bashing people over the head about how good Kane is if Fargo wins it's poll.

Also when it comes to film if i do think Batman begins is the best comic movie ever doesn't that make it so for me since film only exists to entertain people?

Doktor Sleepless

I am not knocking mainstream films. I simply said if someone has watched a combined total of ten movies in their life compared to someone who watches ten in a week, clearly some will have a....let's just say more knowledgeable opinion than others. That is what i meant anyways. There are plenty of mainstream films I like. I like Roger Rabbit more, and people in this thread have called the film stupid and such. I am just defending what I think is the better movie. Sorry if I offend.

How do you know the people who voted for Batman have only watched ten movies in their lives? You got a Palantir lying around in your house or something?

The bummer of this round is that both the movies are really shining examples of their craft. If Batman were going up against most other movies, I'd go Batman in a heartbeat. Roger Rabbit, for me at least, has stood the test of time. Batman Begins is still shiny and new. Maybe it'll still kick it in 2026, but my money is on Roger Rabbit to still be near and dear to me. Just need 2 votes for the rabbit... :^)

How is Roger Rabbit not mainstream?  I don't see why you seem to be trying to work out ways to dismiss people who disagree with you.

No, I just don't see any way he could be worse than Nicholson.
