Sync lines stepping on riffs

I would like to suggest that any Disembaudio lines be well separated from the riffs (silence between the sync line and any riff). Quite a few times they have ruined the riff that comes after it. At least for me, it would make it that much more enjoyable.

Actually, there are cases wherre I find that helps in case I'm a little off-sync but the joke required that split-second response time. Timing is everything in comedy. Had mike been a split second off in dialogue, maybe a riff wouldn't be as funny, but Mike's always perfectly in sync with Disembaudio. :^)

BathTub

well they can't overlap, that would only happen if you were out of sync.

But the actual dialog would link with the riff better. DE just comes off way too loud and it sounds like Mike is riffing on it instead of the movie. The sync line being a few beats back or forward wouldn't hurt the syncing.

And it is impossible for them to overlap, since the recording is fixed (stationary). I didn't mean that they overlap, but rather that it simply ruins the riff if the sync line and the riff are almost inseparable.

ok, yes some of them are very close, I make my own dvds and mute Disembaudio and most of the time I don't have to worry about the exact millisecond that I am selecting, but once or twice, they are essentually the same soundbite, so I get what you mean.

There was a good DA line in Halloween where DA says a line, Mike says a riff, then DA says another line.
It took a bit more work with that re-author.

BathTub

Ok here is a harsh one, I guess some might even miss it.

"For another ring was made""Ahhh"

They are so close the waveforms have no space between them, just have to make a judgement.

When I blank out DA's lines with GoldWave, I can specify it to .0000 of a second.

So, for ones like this I can be pretty accurate.

BathTub

How small the measurements in your editing program are isn't really the point, just saying with that small 'ahh' you could miss it completely.

We always try to avoid putting synch lines on lines that lead up to jokes, it's something we're aware of.  The only trouble comes when there really needs to be a synch line but there just hasn't been any actual talking for several minutes, (See:  Halloween & The Grudge).  We'll do our best not to interfere with understanding the jokes.

I was able to save the 'ahhh', no probs.

BathTub

Wasn't a matter of saving it, it's if people even noticed it in the first place.

Not a huge deal, I mean of all the sync lines we are talking about 200ish? it doesn't happen too often.
