Tripe

But it is all he has done. Let's see him do something else :)

Raven

I haven't done the research fully but I think it's the best movie I've ever seen written by a stripper.  My firends actually talked like that in High School so the quirkiness didn't bother me at all.  J.K. and Janney were awesome.  I loved the West Wing and J.K. was hilarious in Thank You for Smoking.

Anyone mind if I resurrect this thread?  Just watched this film, I'm in the middle on this one.  On the positive side, you've got uniformly great acting and I think that's what really holds the movie together.  The real surprise for me was Jennifer Garner.  All I knew her from before this was Daredevil and it's not like she left much of an impression in that.  She looks like Julia Roberts 2.0 and I didn't expect much from her.  She could have easily gotten lost in all the strong performances but her character as the adoptive mother ends up shining brightest of all.

The negatives?  Where to start?  You've got the cloying, indy folk-rock soundtrack that just screams "Don't you get it?  This movie is quirky!  It's Napoleon Dynamite with pregnancy!".

You've got the setting, which I guess was supposed to be Minnesota because you saw snow once or twice.  Hollywood filmmakers think that people who don't live in New York City or Los Angeles are either a) rednecks b) dullards or c) laid back, eccentric yet somehow nerdy and cool all at the same time.  At least they didn't attempt the accents.  I'm from Minnesota originally and I liked Fargo for the most part, they got the attitudes right but those ridiculous accents just grate on my nerves.

The most annoying thing about the movie is that goddamned dialog!  Jesus GOD!   NOBODY TALKS LIKE THIS!!!  The dialog is so stilted it made me yearn for a Kevin Smith film!  It made me want to watch 'Brick' again for it's realistic portrayal of teenagers!  Best Original Screenplay?  Seriously??

And as an Arrested Development fan can I just say, what the hell?  You get Michael Cera and Jason Bateman in the same movie and you can't think of a reason to give them a scene together?  That's just criminal.
