So I just saw a new TV spot for this and the major selling point the voice over focused on?  That it's Shymalan's first R-rated film.  That's its main selling point?  Really?  Then when the rating popped up, the R was huge and bright red.

Great, you just did the porn industries job for them.  They would have worked for months before coming up with that name.

AS interesting as the porn conversation was

I like Shamalamadingdong because he makes his audience re-consider his movies from a different point of view. Even of you only view his movies once, whenever you think back on them you will tell yourself "I didn't see this at first, but now I can see it"

I like him because he teaches people another way to think.

I watched Lady in the Water with the Quiptracks. It was excellant!

I know what you mean. Every time I watch Unbreakable, I get something new out of it.

I actually liked The Village a lot, especially the ending twist although I was as disappointed as everyone else when I found out about the monsters. I think the real reason people don't like him is that they always go into one of his movies expecting one thing based on the advertising and they get something else entirely. The Village, for example, was presented like a thriller. The trailers made you think there were monsters in the woods and that they were going to get pissed off and attack the village. That never really happens One monster scratches at a door one night and that's about it.

Why thank you!

Anybody who's seen our QuipTrack knows exactly how much I hate Lady in the Water, but I'm also glad people who like it can enjoy the QuipTrack.

No, people hated it because it was a piss poor excuse for a movie.  The biggest problem that the movie had was that it was DULL.  I got dragged to the theater for this movie, and I thought my brain was going to shut down due to lack of stimulus.  M. Night continues his tradition of artificially inducing suspense by having all the characters, even children, talk in soft, monotone voices.  I call this the X-Files method.  For the Village however, there is nothing terribly interesting happening at any point, so the dry dialogue is like a lullaby.  Remember the "monster raid" scene, the one that was capped off with the slow motion running towards to cellar.  I've never seen such a poorly thought out scene in my entire life, and this movie is full of them.  None of the characters are interesting, and all attempts to make them engaging is laughable.  The whole scene with, "I won't tell you your color" was so unnatural and uncomfortable when I guess it was supposed to be romantic or something.  The twist, like many people have said before, was stupid and I saw it a mile away.  And as for the advertising, that's like being offered cookies and given shit.  Sure, the false advertising is a letdown, but you're still left with shit.

If you want a thorough reason why people hated the Village, read Roger Ebert's review.  Some people don't like his reviews, but he absolutely nailed everything that was wrong with the Village.

As for "The Happening", I already know what it will be like.  It will be slow and artsy with lots of people moving slowing and talking softly, except this time there will be blood (OMG!!!!!).  The general public will pan it, M. Night fans will defend it to the death and call everyone else stupid, and the world keeps turning.

And I thought I was the only one who liked this movie.  I'm not alone!
