Quote from: ScottH on April 26, 2008, 05:10:00 AMIt seems to me that I'm not the one who has a problem with differing opinions.  The fact I'm one of maybe 4 people who've had the gall to not hate this movie and because of that I'm being hassled, I haven't asked anyone to justify their opinions I'm just stating mine.

I didn't even watch the whole riff.  I REALLY don't get the point of riffing good movies, especially recent good movies.

Can you at least acknowledge that not everyone thinks it was a good movie?  That it might even be possible that some people think it was one of the worst movies ever made?  If so, there's your answer.

Those people have never seen Forrest Gump or the 90's version of Rollerball

This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

*sigh*

I miss Zardoz.

Zardoz, ScottH....we gave up one annoying spoiled brat for another annoying spoiled brat. What's the difference?

Anyway, the obvious suggestion would be Psycho. One of the most pitiful excuses for a remake in the history of cinema.

The Haunting remake needs to be thrashed by the riffing pros Mike, Kevin and Bill  :)

Although it's decent I'd like to see them do the Amityville remake.

I've never been able to get my head around the venom people generate for remakes, some of my favourite movies have been remake very poorly (Planet of the Apes, Halloween, etc) and yet some of my favorite movies are remakes (the Thing, Ocean's 11, etc) personally a bad film is a bad film no matter if it's an adaption, a sequel, a remake or an origional idea... might start another thread about it.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

Father of the Bride = remake!

Young Frankenstein = remake!

ScottotD

...anyway.

Young Frankenstein = remake!

It does follow almost the exact same plot as Frankenstein but it's more of a spoof as opposed to a remake surely?  Flying High is a remake of Zero Hour but it's not classified as a remake usually.

wasn't there this long argument somewhere about how a bad movie may not be a bad movie to everyone?

You're right, hat the hell was I thinking trying to start an actual conversation about opinions on movies??

The fact that people will judge a movie harshly or even dismiss it based on no information besides the fact it's a retelling of a previous movie is hardly the same as people liking movies based on their merits.

I've enjoyed quite a few remakes myself, I wish there were less of them just for the fact that I'd prefer to see more original ideas, but a remake done well can be a lot of fun.  Shoot I'm already looking forward the the new Get Smart movie.

Not sure if the new Psycho would be worth it even riffed.  I mean, the fact that there's no real difference other than color, poorer acting, and the sounds of masturbating you might be better off riffing the original just because more people'd be willing to sit through it.

I can't think of too many remakes I like. NOTLD and The Thing would be among them. Brewsters Millions was a remake.

Brewster's Millions was, like, nine remakes.
