I disagree. Just because I don't watch Citizen Kane on a reg basis doesn't mean I can't see how amazing it is.

Agreed. Brazil's a great film, but I couldn't see it loads of times.  Rewatchability's a factor certainly, but not the prime one.

No, you're both missing my point. There are films out there that are completely unwatchable but are considered worthy of praise seemingly due to their turgid nature. While rewatchability may be tangential watachability should be important. And for the record I've rewatched Brazil and Citizen Kane multiple times, and I'm sure I'll rewatch them multiple times in the future.

The thing is different people enjoy different films but they should choose the films they actually enjoyed not the films that will earn them some sort of points for good taste. I suggested Daughters of the Dust though I doubt many will vote for it because it's a little slow, in the way molasses in Anchorage is a little slow, but I dig it.

I saw Brazil once. That was half a time too many. I guess I didn't take the right amount of cocaine first.

But see that's the point, if you didn't enjoy it what's the point of voting for it?

You don't have to like a movie, you don't have to dislike a movie but voting for a movie you dislike because it has some sort of nebulous quality (except apparently the quality of entertainment) is a real waste of a vote.

Well sure! Why would people vote like that though? I mean, the votes are anonymous after all and it's not like "cool points" or whatever they are are tradeable for cash.  :)

But you'd be surprised. People begin viewing "better" television when they have the Nielsen boxes. There is some sort of existential dread at the back of people's minds of disappointing the invisible test marker

Yea, i will concure with that. Don't vote for a movie cause you wanna seem a ll hip and with it (tucka, tucka, tucka, tucka)

Ah well... you don't want the Nielsen people to know you usually watch that dildo infomercial every week.

Well don't look at me like I'm frickin' Frankenstein.

Fuzzy Necromancer

I think "Curse of the Cat People" should be disqualified by virtue of the utterly misleading title.
Love doesn't hurt. It kills.

"Where there's smoke, there's a smoke-making machine."

That's Val for you, he was one of the few people to be able to make great little movies from a title alone.

Mystery Science Theater the movie should be disqualified.

No because there is a strong bias towards it.  It should at least be handicapped.  Like every vote for it is only worth 1/4 of a vote.
