How Did You Reauthor?

I've been working on collecting all the shorts together on one reauthored DVD. And i'm curious how the rest of you have been dealing with this double-feature. The way i figure... you can either reauthor each title separately and edit out a few seconds of the riffing, or you can edit the shorts together and create one file that contains both films.

So... what did you do?

I combined the shorts together, and then stripped off the audio.  Then when I mixed the audio I had to add an extra second of silence in between the 2 shorts.  It was pretty easy that way.

I cut the mp3 in half right before the "turn off the film and discuss" (right after Bill says 'and the sequel to 'who cares')and then synced (same as adding a couple seconds of quiet, but easier for me), that way none of the commentary is lost.  Then again, I use the bonehead methood of re authoring (Nero) because your nerdy ways are just too much for me.  I got it to work perfectly though.

I didn't even notice there were two parts to it before reading this thread. I'd just gotten used to the archive.org/audacity routine.

Originally i tried to split the MP3 into two separate files, and mix them with the audio from each short. It worked okay except, like i said... i had to cut a few seconds of the guys. Any normal person watching the DVD wouldn't have even noticed, really. But since i'm, uh... "particular" about details it just bugged me for some reason.

Now i'm going all out, and editing the films together. We'll see how that works. I guess since it was originally released as a double feature, it might as well stay that way. I could always put a chapter break between the shorts as well.

Pretty much how I did it, splitting the mp3 towards the end of  "Cathy".  I could toggle the 2nd riff between the two shorts to get a perfect match with out losing any commentary.

I think the audio ducking in the DRM free versions is a bit extreme.  It totally blocks off the source film and to me, makes the jokes a bit tougher to follow.  I am glad they give us the option to do it ourselves.  This one was a bit of a challenge, but I enjoy the satisfaction of figuring it out.

However, I wish I had some ducking ability for Matrix Reloaded.  Too loud and quiet, much like its predecessor.  People missed the "you shall like, not pass" line, much to my dismay.  If I made the commentary any louder  the dialogue scenes (and they were a plenty) would have been unbearable.

I will persevere.  There are six shorts now.  Good number for a stand alone DVD.  I've been attaching them with movies, but I think now is the time for a balls to the wall shorts dvd.
