I take offense at you taking offense at my joke.  ;)

That was your joke?  I don't think I laughed harder at any other line in the movie. Well done.

I just thought it was a little too inside and soon to be dated. Also, it's hard to look up if you don't know how to spell it.

When I first heard it, I thought he said "Crippling Ass-Burgers Syndrome"... I didn't even want to ask.. :speechless:

That's what I heard too!  I'm just glad I didn't try to Google 'Ass Burgers' to find out what it was.

According to Wikipedia...

"Individuals with AS experience difficulties in basic elements of social interaction, which may include a failure to develop friendships or enjoy spontaneous interests or achievements with others, a lack of social or emotional reciprocity...

...they approach others, even if awkwardly, for example by engaging in a one-sided, long-winded speech about a favorite topic while being oblivious to the listener's feelings or reactions, such as signs of boredom or haste to leave."

Sounds like half the posters on the Roundtable!  (not YOU guys, I mean the OTHER half)

Soon to be dated? You think the syndrome is going away?

I honestly don't think it's too inside either. Asperger's has become common on television lately (quite a few shows have referenced it, the most obvious being Boston Legal) and I've seen quite a bit of it in the media as a result.

If you're talking about the media attention dying down, maybe you have a point but the syndrome will still exist so the reference will never be dated.

Ohhhhh, SO close. In fact I'm just not oblivious enough. Fine line between a disease and just being a loser I guess.

Anybody else here remember the great ADD scare of the 90s? "Hey, wait a minute... OUR kid doesn't like school work!"

No, Mmmanda, I was talking about it in reference to this forum and the few people who will recall the relevance. Media attention? Well, you know, I like to give the media as little attention as possible, so I don't know what they like to pay attention to.

I was assuming you were referring to Insulterkiller/The Next Walt Disney and his 15 minutes of fame on the forum.

Let's hear it for vague symptoms!

Ah, I guess I thought that insult fella said he had it AFTER the rifftrax was written.  My sense of space and time is crippling :)

i can see your point if you were thinking it was just a forum reference.  I imagine a lot of people outside of the forum would get it though.  I would have gotten it before that incident.

The joke was not inspired by the forum, but by the general media attention Asperger's is getting. There are more vlogs on Youtube about Aspergers then there are pounds of gold. It's the "it" problem for kids these days.

that is terribly upsetting

bratpop

Vlogs on YouTube about Aspergers? Just exactly how much time do you have on your hands, Greg?

Not to sound insensitive, but...  Since when is that a "disease" (or disorder, or what-the-hell-ever)?

Hey, I think I'm going to create a new one, for the inability to take a shower.  I'll call it Tedthatguywhoworksinthemailroom Syndrome.  Symptoms include reeking like a decaying skunk and wearing the same clothes for 2 weeks straight.  Coincidentally, victims of this debilitating illness also find difficulty making friends in life.

(I'm going to stop now before I go on one of my rants about how every damn thing gets classified as a "disease" these days.)

I didn't take the word crippling to mean that anyone who had it couldn't function. I figured (and I might be wrong) that some have it more severly than others. I figure that any disorder, injury, or sickness can get to a that point if it's severe enough.

That's pretty much what I took it to mean as well. Not that Asperger's itself is a crippling disorder, but that Superman's case of it was particularly severe.

Funny, I took it to mean "this adjective is an ironic exaggeration used for humorous effect." As in "Chaos' crippling Mandelbrot addiction."
