...was that an insult?
Nah.  I say that kinda stuff anytime anyone says they'd rather have one thing than another.  I think it's funny because it doesn't change anything, so why not rather have the best of anything you want.

I've been watching Simpsons lately, and I think it's just...sorta lost its edge? The last two eps I've watched have been pretty much pure schmaltz, no satire.
I've caught a few eps here and there.  It's def lost its edge, but it's far far superior to Season 11+.  Def little to no satire, but still funny and entertaining.

600th post!!!  WOO-HOO!

I was watching The Simpsons season 11 on DVD a few weeks ago.  I watch all the episodes and listen to all the commentaries.  On a few of the more reviled ones (i.e., the episode with Duncan the racing horse), executive producer Al Jean speaks of how that particular episode is "controversial".  I think it's a strange euphamism, but he's still pretty up front about admitting that they've gotten negative feedback about some of the episodes around the time of the 11th season, and he sorta takes it on the chin.

I notice and say this in stark contrast to Seth McFarlane, who churns out terrible episodes of Family Guy, and if criticized for them, gets immensely offended and goes on about how great his show is.
Haven't got to the commentaries yet for Seasons 10 and 11, but I've been astounded about how good they've been.  Didn't the Duncan the Race Horse ep have Comic Book Guy saying it was the Worst. Episode. EVER... IN the show.  I'm pretty sure he was wearing the t-shirt too.  Haha.  I didn't know that about McFarlane.  That just adds to the list of reasons why not to watch anymore.

Johnny Unusual

Me too, particularly the Land of the Jockey's song.
