You know, I keep expecting to hear SPECTRE with each of these new Bond announcements. Will there be a new Blofeld?

Apparently Bond with gadgets isn't "cool" anymore, despite Bond being primarily known for being the spy with gadgets.

Screw you, John Cleese!

Face it, how can you replace the ultimate coolness that was the late Desmond Llewelyn?  The producers may be wise in not even trying.

Well i am glad they are staying away from the gadgets for the time being,in the 80s and 90s they got way over the top.

Also as much as i like Cleese he just didn't have the class Llewelyn did.

You know what I just had what may be a crazy idea but maybe Derek Jacibi could play Q,he seems to add class to anything he is in no matter how bad it is and he is great at playing grumpy old men.

Don't worry at some point the gadgets will be back.

In John Gardner's James Bond novels, Q did get a female assistant.  Inevitably, she was nicknamed Qute.

A female M and a female Q would be too much.  The movies would get this post-feminist subtext about how Bond acts out against female authority by bedding and disposing of every woman he can. (Not disposing of in the "license to kill" sense, but in the "no, you don't get to be a regular love interest in the series, whatever gave you that idea?" sense.)  And frankly, that's a bit more intellectual weight than these movies should have to carry.

Beware, THR.  The Bond movies went down that road once, casting Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist in The World is Not Enough.  Results were, um, not promising.

But yeah, you can dream.

See, The reason I didn't like Casino Royale was that they tried to give Bond this psychoanyalitical backstory. Ohhhh he's an orphan and he fell in love with this chick because he sucked her fingers in a shower. Now he is just gonna fuck every women he meets.

Bond kicks ass and takes names just because! I don't want to hear about him have this little amount of human feeling because some ass killed the girl he fell in love with after ten seconds!

For some reason i misread that as "he loves midgets, dammit" and it totally cracked me up. Just thought i'd share. Now back to your regularly scheduled discussion...
