Like said above, if you are going to get a bootleg copy, make sure it's one with all the commercials. Otherwise you'll have to do some editing or pausing of your commentary.

This is silly, as the google video is easily available, and probably will be for quite awhile, since it has been  online for over a year already. If (and I am sure when, even if it takes seveal years), the video is no longer available, the mpg/vod with the added commentary track will be linked here, as long as you pay the nominal fee.

This is true. I used the Google copy for obvious reasons. It actually didn't look that bad translated to TV. Plus, not only has it been on Google Video, but that Google link is given directly from Wikipedia. So it's a pretty safe bet Lucasfilm knows about it being online.

I was simply saying that if one insists on trying to find a bootleg version for whatever reason (picture quality, etc...) that it would need to have the commercials in it too.

My DVD-R copy was identical to the google version...same commercials and everything. However it did not sync at all with the RiffTrax. Therefore I used the Google version for my re-author.

Its not like we weren't all warned by the RiffTrax folks though...   :P

Yeah, mine didn't work out super well, either.  I wouldn't recommend it for watching while playing the RiffTrax separately.  With a bit of work and a lot of patience, it can be synced in a reauthor-type situation, though.  I did mine that way.  It didn't come out perfectly, though, because I didn't have quite enough patience.

So, bottom line: use the Google Video version unless you're a professional editor. :P

Holy God. I never saw this before, and just watched the first ten minutes. Now I've got to download this Rifftrax. That was total insanity.

Say, as a follow-up question to this thread.

Are there actually different versions of TSWHS out there?  I ask because I have an old copy that some public-spirited individual has transferred to a DVD, and I noticed that the opening was a little different.  More significantly, some of the riffing on the commercials didn't match up, which makes me wonder if there were different commercials aired in different regions of the country.

It's not a big issue, of course, but I found it interesting.

And, in case anyone hasn't got this RiffTrax, count me in as a satisfied customer.  It *really* is very funny.  I got a copy of TSWHS a while ago, and watched every minute of its painful awfulness.  When it was done, I though, "You know; it's a darn shame this this thing wasn't featured on Mystery Science Theater, to receive the thorough drubbing it so richly deserves."  Lo and behold, RiffTrax steps up to the plate some years later, and the results do not dissapoint!

Thanks, guys.  You made my Christmas this year!

Yeah, there's probably several different varrying versions out there.. Some with commercials, some without, some with different commercials, etc.
The one from Google Video is the Exact version used for this RiffTrax.
