The Nolan movies are being carried on the back of Bale..... and he is terrific.

I still think Bale' s angry Batman voice is the silliest thing I've ever heard.

THANK YOU.

In the cathedral bell tower, right after punching Joker in the face, Batman grabs him and says "I'm going to kill you." The whole reason why Batman uses hi-tech fancy gadgets is because he REFUSES to kill, otherwise he'd just have a gun.

The original batman used to shoot people. I'm trying to find the panel where he's shooting that guy in the face but haven't had any luck.

And you won't. The WAS this splash page:

In that issue, he does shoot a pair of vampires with silver bullets. In another issue, Batman uses the machine-gun on his plane to shoot some of Dr. Hugo Strange's monsters. And he threw A LOT of guys to their deaths in that first year-and-a-half.

I believe the original superman used to drop people off of buildings too.  :D

Um... no.

He did once tear the wings off a plane that was carrying a group of villains that were plotting to kill Lois Lane.  He may have never thrown anyone off a building in the '30s that I know of, but he would kill if necessary.

I hear ya on the Lundgren Punisher, Bob. The only indication that movie has of the Punisher is one combat knife with a skull on the hilt, otherwise it's just a generic action flick.

That movie's real crime is that it gave us the notion (now carried over into the comics) of Frank Castle as disgruntled cop.

I would put the first Tim Burton Batman on the list. Just because a movie's unfaithful doesn't mean it's bad.

In the movie, the Joker is the one who killed Bruce Wayne's parents. Burton wanted to give Batman a more personal reason for revenge.

They only did that because of Jack Nicholson's casting as the Joker. Sam Hamm (the original screenwriter) said explicitly in pre-casting interviews that Nicholson was too old to play his version of the character.

Some people say that the movie was inspired by the grim and gritty nature of Dark Knight Returns, but the fact is Tim Burton made a Tim Burton movie that just so happened to have a character named Batman in it. This movie has more in common with Edward Scissorhands than it does with other comic book movies. The same goes for Batman Returns to an even bigger extent with the sewer-mutant interpretation of the Penguin.

To be fair, that movie was the first time, despite DC Comics' many attempts, that it was possible to take the Penguin seriously as any kind of threat.

Katie Holmes sucked because she didn't have a skull on her shirt. Same reason Man-Thing sucked.

:D

I always had it in mind that the real reason Burton wanted to make Batman movies was another excuse for dark circus imagery.  Look at his movies, the circus is a dark twisted evil place (much like how Joel, Mike and the bots depicted it)  You had evil clowns destroying the bikein dream sequences in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Nightmare Before Christmas showed a clown with a tear off face, even if it wasn't quite as evil Big Fish showed a circus run by a werewolf who exploited freaks with their contracts...so Batman he gets to have a homicidal clown.  Batman Returns he remakes the Penguin into a freak from a fair with a whole gang full of clowns and freaks behind him.

Okay, but he did kill his fair share of Nazis.

When? despite the numerous covers that appeared during the war, the big characters mostly dealt with spies and 5th columnists in America.

that's an awful lot of smoke coming from that little gun.

Also on that Superman cover, who are those guys?!

They are not NAZI soldiers, they just seem to be three guys with a cannon.

bratpop

Those guys with the cannon would be better if they had skulls on their shirts.

Tripe

But that still doesn't explain the out and out hatred a lot of batman fans seem to have for her.

I hear she even got death threats.

I wasn't great, but she wasn't bad either yet all the Batman fans keep acting like she wrecked the movie.

Is it just that fans always have to find something to hate about a movie no matter how good it is?
The whole "marriage" to Tom Cruise made it look like she and her publicity people were trying to make her more important than the movie....when realitively speaking she was a blip on the screen.  And when a lot of people consider the marriage to be nothing but a publicity generator for the two of them anyway....

Not that I'm making excuses for death threats.  Those are never cool.

The Generation X tv movie ranks up there on the unfaithful list:

http://www.pop-arena.com/articles/genx.html

Holy crap, I was just thinking about that movie.  I still have it taped off of Fox somewhere in my old VHS shelf.

I don't know WHY I still have it, but I do.  Guess I could just never find it when I could tape over it.
Maybe I'll make a deal with you for it....I love Matt Frewer.

Sorry to get your hopes up, I've looked through my old VHS collection and I can't find that tape anywhere.   :(  It's been a long time since I've watched it, and I have moved three times since then, so there's many ways it could have been lost.  If I ever come across it in a forgotten box or something I'll let you know though.
Appreciate you looking for it.

If you're still looking for it....
