I receive the newsletter...it's kind of sporadic though.

It seems like I almost always (not always) receive it announcing the new tracks but not the "Easter Egg" type pricing.  If I recall, the Nester pricing was actually a promo from another website to attract their fanbase?  Wasn't Troll 2 discounted for Something Awful fans by means of a coupon code too?  (and maybe I'm merging the two in my mind).  That makes more sense to me than a free track. People who visit this site obviously are going to be more tempted to buy tracks than people who have never heard of it. It makes more sense to try and tempt people who've never heard of rifftrax or mst3k than us fans.

Although, it's nice to be nice to your fans too.

I think if you were giving away a freebie (which isn't a bad idea) it would make more sense to make it an EASY to get movie.

That would rule out Nestor.

And also I'd make it a movie that wasn't going to be hard to find the correct DVD to synch with.

So that would rule out the public domain ones.

My suggestion would be a fairly current one, but maybe not one of the huge blockbusters that are going to be bought by the curious anyway.

None are jumping imediately to mind... Maybe T3, Crossroads or Top Gun (it's a bit older, but one that would be very easy to pick up from a rental store).
FINE

Conor

We pretty much only send out newsletters to announce the availability of a new RiffTrax, and you can sign up for it here:

I can confirm that these did go out on Tuesday for the Missile to the Moon release.

BathTub

yeah I didn't get them for a long time, even though I was signed up, I did get the last one, but it was unreadable, first one like that recently though.

AmandaGal

Mine for Missle To the Moon was fine, for what it's worth (was that the last one, I remember seeing Major Nelson in it).

I get a newsletter pretty regularly.

What do you mean by unreadable BT?

It's all made up of images, so I can't view mine until I move it from my spam file to my inbox. After that it's fine.

That's basically what I mean, I should have been clearer, for a while they had a link where you could view the message online, I have html/images forced off in my email application.

Thanks, Conor.  I never received an activation or confirmation-of-activation e-mail before, so I think everything's going to be fine now.

BTW, that's you in the closing credits of Missile To The Moon, isn't it?  I don't suppose there can be more than one Conor (with a single N) associated with Legend Films/RiffTrax.

(I now return you to your regularly scheduled freebie talk.}

If you were referring to my post, I wasn't actually suggesting Nestor, I was suggesting something "Nestor sized" as in a half hour special or something similar.  If you pick a mainstream enough one it might work because these tend to sell well around holidays, especially when the buyer has a kid or two in the house, and the smaller file wouldn't lose Rifftrax as much money as giving away a two hour movie riff.

I don't think so. I mean, they could give away Plan 9 but who the hell has that on DVD? And if you're going to pop ten bucks just to hear the free riff, you might as well pay four bucks for a riff on something you already own.

I could see giving away the first 15 minutes of something for free maybe, or doing a new 15-minute free-only riff for something they didn't intend to riff all the way through. But I can't imagine what that would be. The first 15 minutes of T2 is so boring. Same goes for the Wizard of Oz. And you can't riff Pulp Fiction. I'm not sure what DVD everybody owns anyway. I guess they could do Star Wars, but then we'd all bitch at them to do the whole thing, and then the rest.

Stay tuned for more on this in the next couple weeks.

Ooh, are Mike and Kevin going to go around to people's houses and freely riff on things as part of a national promotional tour? That's it, isn't it.
