Speculation, while entertaining, is pretty useless at this point.  We'll find out what they have in store eventually.  I can wait.

Boy, I don't think you know how THIS forum works. :P

I do... but sometimes it's fun to point out the obvious.   :D

You don't have to make an iso 4 gig!

Thanks for the "contribution." I know how an iso works. I work on computers for a living.

A full length DVD, ready to burn and configured as an iso, is 4.something gigs (usually 4.2 or 4.4 depending on format). I am fully aware that you can make iso files of basically any size, but if it's an iso of a full-length DVD, it will be 4 gigs. If it's less than 4 gigs, then it won't be DVD-format .vob files inside the iso, it'll be something else.

Define what you mean by full length.  I've made plenty of DVD ISOs that were less than 4 GB.  The size of the ISO will vary with the actual amount of data on the disc.  Come to think of it, I've made plenty that were over 4.35 GB as well, but of course they were dual layer DVDs.

Exactly what I was about to say, thank you!

There's NO reason for them to make the disks super high res given that they will be working with poor quality films etc probably.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with DAP.  I don't know exactly how their p2p works compared to others, but it usually takes me less than 24 hours to get the dvds they put out.  It's not as instantaneous as a zipped mp3, but when the alternative is to wait for a dvd to come in the mail, at a possibly higher price, maybe a big download is suitable.

Come on, I want to see my crap as clear as possible!

Seriously though, we'll just have to see.  I'll judge whether I want the download or the DVD when I see the quality of the download and the difference in price.  I'm guessing that's a main reason CT's giving away that free short, so we know what we'll be buying with the download

There are a few sites that offer down loadable DVD that are 3-4 gigs.  The CT ones don't have to use the highest bit-rate and they could keep the gigs down. I got from Joel's post that there is a third party involved. They will probably facilitate the downloading and taking the bandwidth hit. The comment from Trace makes it sound like they will also have the covers and labels to download so we can print them at home also. I am also willing to say if you buy a physical DVD from them, we will probably get a DVD-R as well. I doubt they will be "pressed" DVDs. If they are not manufactured DVDs I will go the download route because it will be faster than waiting for snail-mail.

P2P wouldn't be suitable as a distribution system for a commercial enterprise.  The week of a release it might be possible to get it quickly, because there'd be lots of peers to download from.  But what about months down the road when everyone has gotten theirs and jumped off?  It has to be a direct download.system and not one dependent on the number of connected peers.

I can see a full size DVD download easily being possible.  Servers and networks are capable of quite a lot.  I regularly download ISO images from the servers at my company's home office in just a few hours time or less.  As long as the network infrastructure can support it, it will work.

Of course, there's always the possibility of bandwidth throttling by your ISP, but there's nothing CT can do about that.

A very good point that hadn't even occurred to me.

I just hope that the price is right. $10-$15 for a full iso and covers and labels would be right up my alley.

That seems very fair to me, but they might have a hard time avoiding the pirating.

One thing Rifftrax does is keeps the cost really low that it's especially crummy and hard to justify the pirating.

I am pretty sure that the more expensive DVDs'll be popping up on bittorrent sites.

Mr`Death

Hey guys,

We (as in us at Cinematic Titanic) are trying to keep the sizes reasonable while keeping the video quality decent. Trust me, it is going to be awesome. Check out the website for an update about distribution.

If you guys want to ask me any questions, feel free. I'd rather tell the truth than read through pages and pages and pages of speculation.

I have a feeling you'll be a pretty happy camper. Wait till you see all we have in store.
