Great Trailer.

Mike and Kevin riffing Episode 1??? Never in my years of geekdom did I imagine it would be this good. This is like chocolate and peanut butter. Thanks Rifftrax!

Although here's my 2 cents on a different issue. If there's ANY movie in existence that brings with it the possibility of cease and desist orders from lawyers, it's this one. Lucas is notoriously anal about this stuff. If they can get away with this unmolested by Lucas and his minions, then, basically, no one will stop them.

Well, there's nothing to sue. You can't sue a audio file containing riffs.

Since none of the original copyrighted material (audio track from the movie) is included, there is no infringement.

But I'm sure in this era of baseless lawsuits and 10 hours a night of "Law and Order" that anything is possible.

I did like that Lucas finally admitted that Episode 1 is the weakest part of his trilogy recently on the Colbert Report (he did so in a backhanded way, but I'll take it at face value).

NOTE:  This thread is almost longer than the movie suggestion thread... that is freaking crazy!

Oh I agree, the lawyers would have no case. But that doesn't mean they won't try. I could be selling bars of soap that have nothing to do with star wars, but as soon as I start using images and footage from star wars in the advertising for the product, suddenly the windows at Lucasfilm open and the flying monkeys come out. That's what I'm worried about here.

But lest we forget, The Flanneled One? did enjoy the Wierd Al parody song "This here Anakin Guy".

*I wonder if they'll play the Rifftrax during Celebration 4...*

The flying monkeys or Rifftrax selling soap?
In brightest day, in darkest night
No DVD shall escape their sight
Let those who tremble in bad movies light,
Beware the power, Rifftrax's might!

The wiki article on fair use can explain it best.

(The fair use & parody section at the bottom)

"In Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, Inc. the Supreme Court recognized parody as a fair use, even when done for profit."

I understand the Rifftrax itself being protected, as it is just an audio track.  But what about the use of Star Wars images and copyrighted material in the promotion of the Rifftrax?  Is that something that might cause trouble??  I'm sure this is something that the crack staff of Rifftrax attorneys (Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe?) have already considered though.

And since he locked the poll thread before i could post a witty Marx Brothers related quip.

Well this topic is certainly no longer relevant.

There's a lot of relevants in the circus.   :P

Tyrant

I would say that if anything did come of Ep 1 being riffed, legal or otherwise, we the fans would step forward and defend this fine institution like a bear on crack. Or a bear who smelled honey. Or just a bear doing something cool. Bears are cool. I like bears.

Uh, anyhow, petitions would be circulated, ugly letters written, all that jazz.

  I wouldn't worry.
