Really? Have you seen Troll 2?  I can name countless films that were worse.

Michael Bay's Transformers was not classic cinema, but I think you're using a eensy bit of hyperbole there, kid.

Yeah, it's really, really bad, but it's not the absolute worst movie ever made in the history of movies.  Have you seen Garbage Pail Kids:  The Movie?

You're welcome to your opinion and you're certianly not the only one on this forum who feels this way, but I'd be very curious to know how Transformers can be the worst film ever made by your logic. The worst film every made fails on every conceivable level there is to filmography, and even the worst movie everyone can possibly think of has SOMETHING going for it to that end. To suggest that Transformers is the worst movie ever made would be to suggest that your opinion is 100% objective, which is impossible because no one's opinion can be 100% objective. You'd be trying to take an art form and mold it into a system of absolutes.

The wost movie ever made would be logically unwatchable to every human being on the planet regardless of culture, creed, sex, race, and all the other things that mold and shape how we percieve reality, and there's never been a movie like since the birth of moving pictures. As hard as it is to believe, at least one person on the entire planet thinks Uwe Boll is a genius and adore his movies as works of art. It may actually be Uwe Boll himself, but I think I prove my point.

Well, I disagree with the claim, but there are other factors to consider. Did watching Transformers ruin the more traditional Transformers he (likely) loved? Uwe Bole makes bad films, but he doesn't ruin anything we love. Caring effects things.

Otherwise, yeah, hyperbole.

I have to agree. I love zombies. Because of House of the Dead, I, like many, now have a reason to want Uwe Boll dead. Or at least removed from society. Perhaps otherwise I wouldn't care. However, my point was mostly that no matter how bad a movie is, one should try to have a smidgen of compassion for it because there's at least one fellow human being out there who thinks it's awesome. I know someone out there thought House of the Dead rocked, and this awareness takes the metaphorical sword out of my metaphorical hands. I'm still working on Along Came Polly. I know some day I'll get there.

I suppose I'm saying all this because I'm getting ready to spend Thanksgiving with my in-laws, and I've often found myself forced to watch movies I have little to no interest in anytime I spend a holiday with them.  I have to find ways of comforting myself with logic so I can forgive.  :)

I'd be more agreeable if he said, "In my opinion, it's the worst movie I've ever seen."

For one, you can't know it's the worse movie ever made unless you are at least familiar with all the movies ever made.  That is probably not possible.  We would also have to define what you qualify as a movie.

For two, "It's the worst movie ever made" is not expressed as an opinion.  It's stated as a fact, which it is obviously not. He didn't even say, "I really, really believe that" which would move it to the opinion realm.  He said he really means that.

I've got no qualms with someone thinking it's the worse movie they've seen.  There's a difference in perspective though. Most fanboys don't realize that when they're shouting, "OMIGAWD!!! MIKEEL BAY IS THE SUX0R!!" and then go to further blame him for the destruction of all that is good in the world and blame Optimus Prime's lips for taking away their will to live.

Not that GalvaTRION is a fanboy.  I have no idea.

And I liked the Transformers movie and I am a fangirl  ;)

Honestly, though- I think a lot of people get more defensive regarding Transformers than they should. I think it is because, at some level, we all realize that, whether we liked it or not, (and I did,) it wasn't a "good" movie.

It wasn't Oscar quality if that's what you mean, but it was a typical low IQ, big budget, summer movie.

Most of the action movies in the summer aren't "good" films by those standards.  They're there for the action an special effects and purely made to be mindless, entertaining and get people in the seats.  Look at Independence Day.  How awful was that? How many racial stereotypes and cheesy one-liners can you fit in one film?  However, it's a fun action flick.  You really can't hold either against Casablanca or The Shawshank Redemption.  It's a different type of film.

If you judge Transformers against typical, blockbuster action film standards, do you think it's really that "bad" of a movie?  It was entertaining which i think is what that type of film wants to do.  It doesn't want to do anything else, just like Independence Day.  I got what I expected.  I wasn't expecting Casablanca.

I think the problem is we're all a bunch of movie snobs here who probably wouldn't be caught dead in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. :)

Hmm... See, I can't call that film "good" after the 3 hour detour at Sam's house. Bumbling bots, awkward masturabation/parents scene...

If they had re-written that scene, and taken out FAT STERIOTYPE BLACK HACKER JACKASS, then the film would have been totally awesome.

The theater I was in, people laughed during that scene. [shrugs]  Maybe I just go to low class theaters. :)  I admit it could have been cut a bit, but some of the lower brow humor in there was probably in because that's what the masses like.

Just throwing this out there, but...

What else would it be but his opinion? Now it took me 18 years to realize this so I'm not talking down, but it has occurred to be that a hypothetical other person describing his thoughts to me doesn't need to put the "It's just my opinion, but..." disclaimer because it kind of goes without saying that it is his opinion and nothing more. We certainly know better than to assume that this hypothetical opinion speaks for all of us, so what purpose does the disclaimer serve except to pad our perceptions?

Now criticizing his tact is reasonable, but I don't think anyone should have to declare before posting that his or her following post will include an opinion.

I wasn't expecting a masterpiece either, but that doesn't really excuse stupid, avoidable faults that Transformers has. I find the movie hard to watch (mostly because of the dialogue and shaky camera effect) regardless of what standard I judge it by. The irritating parts outweight the fun robot fighting parts, so I won't watch it much in the future except for the riff. I do, however, still think it could have been better by making some simple, low-impact changes, and apart from your understandable frustrating at hearing repeated criticism of this movie I think I should have the right to say, within reason, that I don't like it.

I guess, as I mentioned, it's just the general tone. I would prefer if he acted as if he knew it was just his opinion.  I do agree with you that you don't have to say, "this is my opinion," however, it's nice if you realize it's your opinion and you don't go around stating opinions as facts.  Many people do that.  When you remind them it's an opinion, they argue.  That annoys me.  Surely you've met such persons.

And, you can surely hold an opinion that movie is bad.  I never said you couldn't.
